The Ontario Agriculture in the
Classroom (AITC) program is one
step closer to becoming an autono
mous organization, operated as a
“joint venture” of the agri-food
and education sectors.
On February 12, under the new
title “Ontario Agri-Food Educa
tion”, an Interim Board of Direc
tors adopted the Articles of Incorp
oration and By-laws of a new
‘ organization that will oversee the
transfer of management and opera

Waiting in the wings
Getting ready for their turn in show business these young Blyth figure skaters await their turn

Archambault, Charlene Bromley, Michael Bean and Laura Meier.
The Grand Theatre in London
presents another insiteful look at
South Africa with Athol Fugard’s
“My Children! My Africa!” open
ing March 8 after previewing
March 5-7.
In the play, a touring production
from Montreal’s Centaur Theatre,
Thami (played by Michael Ed
wards), a leading member of an
activist group, is brought to the
debating podium in a competition
with a white African girl, Isabel
(Soo Garay). Seeing potential in his
gifted student, Thami’s teacher
Mr. M. (Errol Slue) brings the two
teens together for another competi
tion, this time as members on the
same team. A special friendship
develops between the two stu
dents, buf it then begins to break
down under the pressure of cultural
differences and political conflict.
Tension escalates as anti-apartheid
supporters seek a solution to end
the racial oppression around them.
Will it be through violence or peace
that a solution is found?
Athol Fugard is a native of South
Africa, considered by many to be
the greatest playwright now writ
ing in English. A passionate artist
and vehement supporter of a
non-violent end to apartheid, his
earliest plays illuminate the com
plexities of human relationships
within the contest of his homeland.
He had withdrawn from the
political scene for some years but
has now returned with renewed
vigour. “My Children! My Arica!”
Mr. Fugard said, “Is my lament.
