here in Ontario.

Elizabeth born on Monday, Feb. 18
in London. Mr. and Mrs. C. Bilyea

Morris council
liquor vote for
Morris township council was
advised at its meeting of February
6, of a proposal for a liquor vote in
the township, and the regulations.
Karl MacNaughton, owner of the
Walton Inn is interested in a liquor
vote with the 1991 election. Council
discussed the regulations with Mr.
MacNaughton concerning any
questions that can be asked on the
vote. Mr. MacNaughton was also
informed of the time period for the
petition or resolution and the cost
involved.
Council decided to give the
matter further consideration at a
future meeting and will inform Mr.
MacNaughton of the decision.
Wayne Riley and Deloris Souch
reported on the ROMA convention
held on February 3-6. It was
brought to council's attention that
Hullett Reeve Tom Cunningham
has been named chairman of the
association.
Road Superintendent Lloyd
Michie informed council that the
new snow plow truck is working
well. It uses less fuel and is faster
than the previous one.
Reeve Doug Fraser, Mr. Michie
and Councillor Clem McLellan
went to look at a sand shed in
Bentwick township. An estimate
for a 40 x 40 shed is to be submitted
for the next meeting.
A bid submitted for the 1975
dump truck was rejected as the
reserve bid is higher than the bid
submitted.
A grant of $150 was given to the
Wingham and District Community
Living Association for 1991.
Alex Macdougall, William
Jolliffe and Steve Mandich of the
Waste Management Corp, from
London presented a video to coun
cil and explained their system and
equipment for baling tires from the
landfill site.
The cost of the equipment is
$247,500 and the annual costs of
operation would be $40,000. Al
though council felt the idea had
merit, they didn’t feel the purchase
could be justified and that a larger
landfill site would benefit more.
Joe Gibson was appointed weed
inspector of the township.
The next euchre will be March 4 at
8:30 p.m. hosted by the Ethel W.I.
Five ladies were in attendance at
the Tweedsmuir meeting of the
Ethel Women’s Institute. President
Patricia Keffer conducted the busi
ness.
Members were reminded to have
their volunteer hours tallied for the
year by the March meeting.
The Huron East District is hav
ing an A.C.W.W. Church Service
April 28 at Melville Presbyterian
Church in Brussels which members
were urged to attend.
Prices for the pancake meal at
the Maple Keys Sugar Bush will
remain the same as last year for the
pancake day.
A motion was made to donate
$200 to the Ethel Hall Board. A
discussion was held on catering to
the Masonic Lodge supper in April.
When more members are in atten
dance a decision on attending the
Blyth Festival will be made. The
roll call “Pay one cent for every
year of your age” was contributed
to Pennies for Friendship.
to consider
election
Carl McLellan of RR 4, Brussels
has been engaged as dog counter,
for the issuing of tags and licences,
and collecting dog tax for 1991 at a
price of $2.75 per dog.
Councillor McLellan had declar
ed a pecuniary interest in this
matter prior to discussion.
It was agreed that $25 legistra-
tion and two banquet tickets of $20
each be paid for the drainage
superintendent to attend the Mini
stry of Agriculture and Food drain
age course in March. Also registra
tion will be paid for two members
of council to the drainage course in
Stratford at a cost of $45 each.
Council had no objections to the
proposals of Grey township for
Rhonda Fischer, the new secretary
treasurer of the Brussels, Morris
and Grey Community Centre
Board, to perform her duties in the
Grey township office, with Grey
being reimbursed by the Board.
Council reviewed the billing for
the Belgrave W.I. Hall for the
renovations last year. The remain
der of the costs after the receipt of
the grant will be billed to the
Women’s Institute.
A letter was submitted to council
at the last meeting from the Huron
County Planning Department ask
ing for comments on future use of
the rail line from Goderich to
Guelph.
Council had intended to file the
letter, but an interested ratepayer,
Emerson Mitchell, asked that they
respond to the letter.
The letter states that council
supports the Groundhog Day com
mittee, which is landowners adja
cent to the rail line. These land
owners oppose the use of the line
as a recreational trail due to the
location of the farm buildings and
the question of trail maintenance.
A copy of the letter is being sent
to Mr. Mitchell.
Reeve Fraser will be attending
the Members of Parliament Day on
March 16 in Clinton as the town
ship’s representative.
The general accounts in the
amount of $26,601.25 and the road
accounts totalling $26,920.57 were
approved for payment.
Weather conditions will dictate
changes.
