Martin gets award Thelma Keffer and her daughter Helen Cullen and Robin Dunbar. Brenda Turner have returned from an enjoyable two week tour of the U.S. and a step across the border to Mexico for half a day. Thelma reports short-wearing weather for a few days. Things economically in the U.S. resemble the conditions here in Ontario. Ethel has two new little girls in the village. Cindy and Cliff Robin­ son have their first girl, Laura Elizabeth born on Monday, Feb. 18 in London. Mr. and Mrs. C. Bilyea have Carleigh who arrived on Tuesday morning February 19 in Listowel. Congratulations to Brian Arm­ strong who has graduated from the Faculty of Education at the Univer­ sity of Toronto. Brian is persuing his studies at Wilfred Laurier University. _ _ Congratulations as well to Lyle Martin on receiving his Milk Award at the Huron County Milk Meeting held on Thursday, February 21 in Brussels. There were 8 tables of euchre in play Monday evening hosted by Morris council liquor vote for Morris township council was advised at its meeting of February 6, of a proposal for a liquor vote in the township, and the regulations. Karl MacNaughton, owner of the Walton Inn is interested in a liquor vote with the 1991 election. Council discussed the regulations with Mr. MacNaughton concerning any questions that can be asked on the vote. Mr. MacNaughton was also informed of the time period for the petition or resolution and the cost involved. Council decided to give the matter further consideration at a future meeting and will inform Mr. MacNaughton of the decision. Wayne Riley and Deloris Souch reported on the ROMA convention held on February 3-6. It was brought to council's attention that Hullett Reeve Tom Cunningham has been named chairman of the association. Road Superintendent Lloyd Michie informed council that the new snow plow truck is working well. It uses less fuel and is faster than the previous one. Reeve Doug Fraser, Mr. Michie and Councillor Clem McLellan went to look at a sand shed in Bentwick township. An estimate for a 40 x 40 shed is to be submitted for the next meeting. A bid submitted for the 1975 dump truck was rejected as the reserve bid is higher than the bid submitted. A grant of $150 was given to the Wingham and District Community Living Association for 1991. Alex Macdougall, William Jolliffe and Steve Mandich of the Waste Management Corp, from London presented a video to coun­ cil and explained their system and equipment for baling tires from the landfill site. The cost of the equipment is $247,500 and the annual costs of operation would be $40,000. Al­ though council felt the idea had merit, they didn’t feel the purchase could be justified and that a larger landfill site would benefit more. Joe Gibson was appointed weed inspector of the township. The next euchre will be March 4 at 8:30 p.m. hosted by the Ethel W.I. Five ladies were in attendance at the Tweedsmuir meeting of the Ethel Women’s Institute. President Patricia Keffer conducted the busi­ ness. Members were reminded to have their volunteer hours tallied for the year by the March meeting. The Huron East District is hav­ ing an A.C.W.W. Church Service April 28 at Melville Presbyterian Church in Brussels which members were urged to attend. Prices for the pancake meal at the Maple Keys Sugar Bush will remain the same as last year for the pancake day. A motion was made to donate $200 to the Ethel Hall Board. A discussion was held on catering to the Masonic Lodge supper in April. When more members are in atten­ dance a decision on attending the Blyth Festival will be made. The roll call “Pay one cent for every year of your age” was contributed to Pennies for Friendship. to consider election Carl McLellan of RR 4, Brussels has been engaged as dog counter, for the issuing of tags and licences, and collecting dog tax for 1991 at a price of $2.75 per dog. Councillor McLellan had declar­ ed a pecuniary interest in this matter prior to discussion. It was agreed that $25 legistra- tion and two banquet tickets of $20 each be paid for the drainage superintendent to attend the Mini­ stry of Agriculture and Food drain­ age course in March. Also registra­ tion will be paid for two members of council to the drainage course in Stratford at a cost of $45 each. Council had no objections to the proposals of Grey township for Rhonda Fischer, the new secretary­ treasurer of the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre Board, to perform her duties in the Grey township office, with Grey being reimbursed by the Board. Council reviewed the billing for the Belgrave W.I. Hall for the renovations last year. The remain­ der of the costs after the receipt of the grant will be billed to the Women’s Institute. A letter was submitted to council at the last meeting from the Huron County Planning Department ask­ ing for comments on future use of the rail line from Goderich to Guelph. Council had intended to file the letter, but an interested ratepayer, Emerson Mitchell, asked that they respond to the letter. The letter states that council supports the Groundhog Day com­ mittee, which is landowners adja­ cent to the rail line. These land­ owners oppose the use of the line as a recreational trail due to the location of the farm buildings and the question of trail maintenance. A copy of the letter is being sent to Mr. Mitchell. Reeve Fraser will be attending the Members of Parliament Day on March 16 in Clinton as the town­ ship’s representative. The general accounts in the amount of $26,601.25 and the road accounts totalling $26,920.57 were approved for payment. Weather conditions will dictate changes.
