WI meeting
The monthly meeting of the
Women’s Institute was held at the
Community Centre on Thursday,
February 21 with 14 members and
three guests present. The hall was
beautifully decorated for Valen
tine’s day.
This was a mystery meeting led
by Evelyn Merrill and Jean Plaet-
zer. The president Evelyn Merrill
chaired the meeting and read a
poem “My Valentine Letter To
You’’. The Ode, Mary Stewart
Collect and O Canada was sung
with Marjorie McDougall as pian
ist.
The roll call was answered by “A
Memory of Valentine’s Day at
School’’. Kay Lapp read the min
utes and correspondence and it was-
dealt with and the secretary’s
report given by Tina Empey and
the card report given by Jean
Plaetzer.
There was a film shown by Ell
Lapp on “Drawing of Columbia
Coffee’’. It showed the planting,
growing and coffee was picked by
hand. They draw the beans from
the rough mountains, where it is
grown, by mules. In one berry
there are two coffee beans. They
were washed and dried for market
ing. Coffee beans are brought in by
bags in a truck to be tested, tasted,
bought and sold. Coffee was pro
cessed, sorted and put in storage
and roasted and sold by auction
and sold all over the world by boat
and plane. Columbian is to be the
best coffee in the world. This was a
very interesting film. Laura Mae
Chamney favoured with two solos
“Remember Me” and “Let Me
Call You Sweetheart” accompanied
by Marjorie McDougall. Evelyn
Merrill had two contests and Ell
Lapp and Marion Haggitt won. A
few games were played, Grace was
sung and lunch was served by
Maureen Bean and Betsy Verwey.
Maureen Bean had a contest, each
put their age down on a square on a
Valentine. Mildred Lawlor and
Eppie Lawrence had the average
age and received a gift. A half
social hour was enjoyed.
