KINDERGARTEN
The Kindergarten class has been
working very hard on Valentine’s
Day projects. They are making
Valentine necklaces that have pat
terns, decorating crowns, matching
hearts that are the same, and
beautiful paintings. The Kinder
garten class also has been planning
a Valentine’s party.
GRADE 2/3
"Being a Friend" is the grade
2/3 motto. They are working on
Valentine’s Day and on Friend
centers. The grade 3’s are learning
how to tell time to the five minute
interval. They will never be late
again.
GRADE 8
The grade 8 class is planning a
ski trip to Talisman ski resort. They
hope to hit the slopes on Thursday,
February 21.
The Science Fair is soon ap
proaching in April. They are in thc^
process of writing their problem
and hypothesis. The class has just
finished saying their speeches.
They wish the best of luck to their
fellow classmates: Andrew Cull,
Sabrena Black, and Julie Elston.

The grade 3/4 students have

The grade 4/5’s have been
working very hard on the Partners
in Excellence program. The class
won the poster last week for being
the class with the highest number
of books read. The class will be
having a Valentine’s Treat Sale on
February 14.
PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST
The Public Speaking Contest for
East Wawanosh Public School was
held in the school auditorium on
Wednesday, February 13. A num
ber of visitors were in attendance
as well as grades 2 to 8.
Mr. Scott thanked the parents for
their support and help at home.
Mr. Fisher, Mr. Kerr, Ms. Thorpe-
Hearn, Mrs. Gross and Mr. Bart
lett were also thanked for their time
and effort.
Mr. Scott indicated that the
contest was a great opportunity for
students to express themselves in
public. Not only does a speech
require research and organization
but it also provides the rest of the
students with entertaining informa
tion about the hobbies and inter
ests of the speakers.
The judges were Mrs. Marg
Walsh, a former teacher at Wing
ham Public School; Mr. Joel Har
ris, General Manager of the Blyth
Festival Theatre and Mr. Bill
Farnell, a teacher from the Learn
ing Resources Centre. Mr. Farnell
spoke on behalf of the judges and
provided some suggestions for the
speakers. The judges were thanked
and received a small memento as a
token of appreciation. The winners
and their topics are: Grade 4,
Melina Hussey (winner), "Work
ing Woman’; Michelle Thompson,
"Diabetes"; Sjaan Gerth, "Camp
ing Trips” and Tom Pfeiffer, My
Dog, Cindy".

Pioneer Sportsworld" and Kendra
Folkard, "Cats”.
Grade 6, Kendra Hopper (win

the Wingham Legion on Saturday,
February 16.

The revised Guide to Ontario
Government Programs and Ser
vices for Disabled Persons is now
being distributed, Elaine Ziemba.
Minister of Citizenship with Re
sponsibility for Disabled Persons
announced recently.
The Guide lists more than 100
programs and services for Ontari
ans who are disabled. Among the
listings are services in education,
health, employment, accommoda
tion, travel and recreation. The
Office for Disabled Persons gather
ed inforation from 23 Ontario
government ministries to produce
the Guide.
The booklet is published in
English. French, Italian. Portugese
and Chinese. For the first time, a
Greek language edition is also
available.
