World Day of Prayer March 1 W ANGLICAN CHURCH ■FTT1 “On the Journey Together” is the theme of the 1991 World Day of Prayer service to be held at Duff's United Church in Walton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. March 1. In preparing the service the writers travelled many miles to hear the stories of women and to reflect with them on their- faith journeys. The women of Kenya share their hopes and struggles and take you on a journey with them in their country. Those who gather at the service are invited to reflect on experi ences. and what it means as Christians in Canada to travel with the sisters and brothers in Kenya. Each year the World Day of Prayer service is written by women of a different country and distribut ed worldwide by the International Committee for the World Day of Prayer, which has representatives from 170 countries. The Interna tional Committee had its quadrenn ial meeting in Jamaica in August of 1990 to plan for the next four years and to select the themes and writer countries for the services. World Day of Prayer in Canada is sponsored by the Women’s Inter Church Council of Canada, which has representaitves from 11 de nominations. Local services are organized by ecumenical groups across the country. The offerings are used to provide study and worship resources, to cover costs of printing and distributing the ser vices and to support ecumenical projects in Canada and abroad. Last year, grants of $40,554 were given to a variety of projects including education and skill development for low income women in Montreal, the set-up of an ecumenical centre in Czecho slovakia and services to victims of wife abuse in Peru, Belize, Winni peg, and the eastern Arctic.
