Topnotch award Carla Johnston, accepted the Highest Judge 1990 award on behalf of Donna Johnston at the Brussels Agricultural Society meeting. The award is a jacket from Topnotch Feeds and is presented by Ralph Watson. WMS holds meeting The Belgrave W.M.S. held their meeting Monday, February 4 at the home of Mrs. Freda Scott. Mrs. Alice Nicholson opened with the call to worship. The hymn, “Love that will not let me go,’’ was sung. Mrs. Margaret Siertsema read the scripture from Psalm 108. Mrs. Ivy Cloakey read a medita­ tion, “The Greatness of God’s Love’’. Mrs. Scott led in prayer. Mrs. Nicholson gave a report on the Presbyterial meeting in Janu­ ary, then she read a story on the Crokinole party winners A crokinole party was held in Knox United Sunday School room, Friday, February 8 with nine tables in play. Prizes were given to: highest score, ladies, Mrs. Jim McCallum, 545; highest score, men’s, Brent Robinson, 630; lowest score, ladies, Sabrena Black, 10; lowest score, men’s, Shawn Cottrill, 115; most 20’s, men’s, Darryl Marks E Wawanosh school KINDERGARTEN The Kindergarten class has been working on their winter unit. This includes playing games like Snow Queen and ABC Bingo, and work­ ing on their winter poems for their big books. The class is going skating on Friday. GRADE 1 The grade one class is enjoying the winter months by going skating every Friday, and many other winter activities. They are glad to see Cole Vincent back after two weeks in Las Vegas. GRADE 2 The Grade two class has been working on snow activities, and making snow sculptures outside. Mrs. Dodds left on February 1 for her maternity leave. The students have been trying to guess if it’s a boy or a girl. Fourteen students guessed it was a boy and four thought it would be a girl. They will have to wait to see who is right. Flash - it’s a girl. GRADE 3/4 The Grade 3/4 class recently went tobogganing on a nearby farm. They have also read 75 books for the read-a-thon. GRADE 8 The Grade 8 class is much life of Albert Schweitzer. Mrs. Siertsema read the minutes of the last meeting and Mrs. Cloakey gave the financial report. The roil call was answered with a poem on “Love’’. Forty sick and shut-in visits were recorded and the collection was received and dedicated. “O Love that casts out fear” was sung. Mrs. Nicholson closed the meet­ ing with prayer. The hostess served lunch and a social time was enjoyed. and Brent Robinson, tied with 9; and most 20’s, ladies, Karrin Marks, 6. Luck draws were won by Jamie McCallum, Olive Jamieson, Ken­ dra Moffat and Jeremy Campbell. Refreshments followed. A fun evening was enjoyed by everyone. The vice-president, Mrs. Jim Hunter conducted the meeting which followed. Everyone joined in singing “This ' is the day which the Lord has made”. Mrs. Sylvia Procter sang two delightful solos and accompan-, ied herself on the autoharp. Mrs. ‘ George Michie and Mrs. Sam Pletch presented a worship service with inspirational readings for the New Year interspersed with the singing of the hymn “Standing at the portal of the opening year”. Mrs. Bill Coultes introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Edith Lock­ ridge of Wingham. She is a,high school teacher who, when she retired from F. E. Madill Secon­ dary School, went to Africa for two years and taught Home Economics at the Lesotho-Agricultural Col­ lege. She showed many beautiful pictures of Africa and told us interesting facts about the country and her stay there. A short business meeting closed the evening. The year-end treasur­ er’s report was read showing a balance on hand of $11,303.33. Mrs. Olive Bolt gave an interesting report of the year’s events which she had recorded in our Archives book. ^It was decided to collect a bale of used clothing and other articles to be sent to Goodwill Industries, London. These articles are to be left at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Michie, 30 Parker Drive, Belgrave, by February 20. The World Day of Prayer will be held in the Presbyterian Church, Belgrave, March 1. Members were reminded to save their used stamps for the Bible Society. The benedic­ tion closed the meeting. 14 tables in play at euchre Fourteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, Wed­ nesday, February 6. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Albert Cook; second high lady, Mrs. Harvey Edgar; low lady, Mrs. Jean Pattison; most lone hands, lady, Mrs. Allan McGill; high man, Mrs. Clarence Hanna, (playing as a man); second high man, Lloyd Appleby; low man. Wayne Vincent and his daugh­ ter, Carrie of Milton, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Vincent. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson spent the weeekend with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cousins of Woodstock.
