INVESTMENTS 1 microwaved cat Tough tabby Joyanne Van Vliet and friend Lucky. A former Walton area resident was featured in the January 22 issue of the Burlington-Hamilton Spectator for giving a new home to a cat that was apparently micro- waved. Joyanne Van Vliet, daughter of Jan Van Vliet of RR 2, Brussels, had been considering getting a kitten when she heard the story of Lucky. The two-year-old orange short-hair had been microwaved and tossed outside to die in early December. When he was found by the Lincoln County Humane Society, he was in shock and had lost all co-ordination and the ability to walk, according to manager Frank Hampson. In the following weeks he was treated for his injuries, including back and respir atory problems. The case of Lycky was widely publicized and the humane society had about 50 inquiries concerning the cat. One was Ms. Van Vliet’s, who was surprised at the screening process for adoption from humane society. She said it much like a job interview. Looking at her furry friend, Van Vliet finds it difficult to imagine someone would want to hurt him. “How could someone do that?’’ she said. “It still makes me mad when I look at him, because he’s such a loveable cat.’’ Though Lucky seems to have fully recovered and is settling into his new surroundings quiet com fortably, he is on antibiotics for his lung problem. the felt Ms. Steven and Kathy Huether, Tor onto spent the weekend with Ray and Margery Huether.
