Blyth Reeve gets small raise The first half of a provincial grant to insulate the Blyth and District Community Centre has been delivered to the village of Blyth. The grant, under the Municipal Buildings Efficiency Program (MBEEP) covers 75 per cent of the total costs of $28,480 to cover the outside walls of the arena and community centre with insulation and steel cladding. The first half of the grant, $10,680 was delivered by officials from Huron M.P.P. Paul Klopp’s office Monday. The changes to the Community Centre are expected to save $5,940 a year in energy costs, repaying the capital costs in about five years. Blyth’s reeve got a pay increase while councillors stayed at the same pay as last year in a bylaw passed at the January 22 meeting of village council. Under the bylaw Reeve Albert Wasson will see his stipend in­ crease to $3,000 from $2,800 last year. Councillors will receive $2,000 a year, the same as last year. Payments for special meetings will also remain the same. Council­ lors will receive $80 for a full-day meeting and $50 for special meet­ ings of a half-day or less. Council­ lors will receive 30 cents per kilometre while driving on village business. Convention registration, accommodation and meals will be paid for at approved conventions with a limit of $35 a day for meals. McDowell Horticultural president Blyth People Last Saturday, several Blyth families attended the wedding of Heather Bauman and Chris Mar­ chand in Grace United Church, St. Thomas. They included: Bill, Susan, Rick and Julie Howson, (Julie was one of the bridesmaids); Brian, Gayle, Matthew and Tim King; Ernie, Emily, Karen and Leslie Phillips; Dick, Gayle and Elaine Poore; and Heather McDon­ ald. Two hundred and two guests attended the ceremony and social activities which followed during the afternoon and evening in various areas of the church edifice - Grace United, where Rev. Ken Bauman, the bride’s father, formerly of Blyth United, is the minister. Vera Hesselwood and Murray Scrimgeour had the high scores at the weekly euchre party at Blyth Memorial Hall January 21. Dorothy Daer and Millar Richmond had the low scores. Alberta Stevens and Lloyd Appleby had the most lone hands. Lottie McLellan won the special prize. Lost Heir will be held every Wednesday night at Blyth Memor­ ial Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson, Kari and Kurt of London visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Shannon and family and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Snell. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hassock of Kitchener visited on Saturday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Daer. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Daer and Patricia, Terry Daer and friend of Barrie visited Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Daer. Mr. and Mrs. James Boyce of Bayfield visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Daer. Mr. and Mrs. Doug McVittie, David and Christina of Burlington visited on Sunday with John and Vera Hesselwood. The Blyth Horticultural Society executive meeting was held on January 22 at the home of Harvey and Feme McDowell. Minutes and a summary of activities were read followed by the annual treasurer’s report. John Blake presented the slate of officers for 1991: president, Harvey McDowell; first vice-president, Mary Walden; second vice-presi­ dent, Sheron Stadelmann) secre­ tary, Alma McCallum; treasurer, Vera Hesselwood. Directors are Alvin Snell, Gene Snell, Graeme McDowell, Erma Cook, Arnold Cook, John Blake, Reta Blake, Vern Dakin, Charles Dakin and Harvey Snell. The Program and Social Commit­ tee was formed and spring planting was discussed. Final plans to be made at the next meeting. Membership cards were given to the canvassers in preparation for the spring canvass for members. John Hesselwood gave an inter­ esting report on the Directors meeting he attended on November 17 at Neustadt. The District 8 annual will be held in Teeswater on April 13. The meeting closed with refresh­ ments served by the hostess.
