The classroom was moved to the Playhouse on January 3. The classroom, which has been described as “no beauty queen” is approximately 25 years old but has been thoroughly inspected by re presentatives of the Huron Country Playhouse and it has been deter mined that it is a good sound building. “We feel that with some cosmetic work and the replacement of three (3) rotted boards that we will have a very functional build ing.” states Kate Burnett, Busi ness Manager for Huron Country Playhouse. “We are very fortunate to be able to acquire this building which will be used mainly for the Children's Theatre School through out the summer months.” The Children's Theatre School, which was a very successful experi ment in 1989-90, will be repeated again this year. This is a full scale Drama School/Day Camp which runs for six (6) weeks in the months of July and August. Each weekly session is geared to a specific age group from ages six to sixteen. The focus is on learning through dis covery and the use of the creative g act as a form of expression and communications. Dance and move- I ment, voice, music and acting are used to stimulate the imagination, Van den Broeck - looks ahead Continued from page 1 and their relationship to the com munity in providing education.” Mrs. Van den Broeck continued, saying education cannot be viewed ■ in isolation. A multi-ministerial commitment to education coupled with conversations with the tax payers is necessary for education to face the challenges of today’s changing society. Until this happens, Mrs. Van den Broeck told the board, they will continue to ensure that Huron County students get the best education the board can afford to provide. In closing she stated that the board will watch with interest, the development of new strategies for governing and financing education as they unfold in the coming year. Although the building was ac quired for a small sum of money, the moving and set up costs must be borne by the Playhouse. “We have several fundraising ventures going right now to help raise money for the transportation and set up of this classroom,” says Kate Burnett. “We are hoping that one of the Foundations who has been a regular supporter of ours will give some financial assistance for this project. We have also set up locations to sell “breakapart” or “Nevada” tickets on our behalf. Finnegan’s Restaurant in Grand Bend and MacPherson’s Restaur ant on Highway 21 near Port Franks have generously agreed and are now selling these tickets for us. We hope to have a location in Sarnia as well.” The Theatre plans to have this building set up. cleaned and ready to go in late April or early May. As it will have heat, it may also be used as a rehearsal hall for the Wizard of Oz which will go into rehearsal mid-May.
