JOHN DAVID MARTIN
After a lengthy illness,
John David Martin, retired
York County School Principal
and a graduate of the Wy-
cliffe College Lay School of
Theology, died on October
12th, 1979. He was born in
Lucknow, Ontario on January
12, 1913 and wasbaptized
and confirmed in 'his home
church of St. Peter's, Luck -
now.
Following graduation from
the Normal School in .Strat-
ford, he taught in the Goder-
ich area, coming to Maple in
1944. He was active in the
Boy Scout movement and
was Assistant District Com-
missioner for York Central,
instructing Bronze and Silver
Arrow -head courses, usually
held during school vacations
at St. John's Church, York
-Mills.
He directed boys' camps at
Sherwood Forest Camp and
at the Diocesan Camp Cou-
chiching and was for a period
of time a Director on the
'Camp Couchiching Board.
With the . assistance of
others in 1953 the first St.
Stephen's Church Sunday
School, Maple, was formed.
and Mr. Martin was Super-
intendent for the following
twelve years and saw the
group grow from twenty-five
to well over two hundred re-
gular attenders, necessitat-
ing the building of the new
Parish Hall.
In later years, after mov-
ing to Concord he was a
licensed Lay Reader at Holy
Trinity Church, Thornhill,
Lucknow institute
Christmas meeting
The Christmas meeting of
the Lucknow. Women's Insti-
tute was held in the Parish
Hall on December 11 when
they enjoyed a turkey dinner
catered to by the Anglican
Ladies.
Following the .dinner,
Mary , MacGillivray welcom-
ed the members and thanked
Beatrice Adams for : the
Christmas corsages which
she gave 'to. each member
and •also for the :pens from
Montgomery. Motors and the..
note books from the Bank of
Montreal which ' were given
as favours.
The roll call was answered
by a `Christmas verse".
Mrs. Armstrong Wilson
presided for a short program,
and called on, Mrs. ;Harvey
Webster who thanked the
Anglican ladies for a delic-
ious dinner.
The motto', "Christmas in.
Other -Lands", .was taken bye
Mrs: Armstrong Wilson,
with the members taking
part, and a reading, `The
Legend of the' Christmas
Candle", was read by Mrs.
.Howard Barger.
The Song Birds, Mrs.

MacGillivray, Mrs. Cyril
Brown, Mrs. Marshall Gib-

"Rudolph the Red Nose

Mrs. Harvey Webster
gave a reading, "Santa and
the Mouse", and also read a
paper on the origin of some
of the Christmas Carols, with
the members singing the
carols. -
The distribution of the
gifts to the Sunshine Sisters
was conducted by Mrs.
Stonehouse and Mrs. Arm-
strong Wilson thanked. all.
those who „helped to make
the afternoon so enjoyable.

meetings in his home. He
also served on the Diocesan
Prayer Committee.
He leaves his wife, Marg-
aret Hallawell, and sons
Robert, David (and his wife.
Leslie).
The Rev. Dr. Ramsay
Armitage conducted the fun-
eral service on Monday, Oct-
ober 15th, with interment in
Maple United Cemetery.

great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased
by one son, Elwyn and
one brother, Harvey
Fisher.
A funeral service was
held at McCallum
Funeral Home• in
Goderich on Wednesday,
December 12 at . 2 p.m.
The Reverend Dr. R.
• Gordon Hazlewood of.-
ficiated, assisted by the
Reveren&James Roe of
Toronto.
Mrs. Mildred Feagan of''
Goderich died suddenly
in University Hospital,
London on Sunday,
December 9 at the age of
72.
She was born on April 8,
1907 i% Colborne .*Town-
ship to Jacob and
Elizabeth (Walters)
Fisher. She was a life
long resident of Colborne
Township until moving to.
Goderich six years ago.
She was a member of
North. Street United
Church in Goderich;. a
member of North, Street
U.C.W.; and .a member of
Tiger : Dunlop Women's
Institute. . .
She is survived ,by her
husband, Carman
Feagan; two daughters,
Mrs. Grant (Lois)'
Farrish of Ashfield
Township and Mrs.
Arnold. (Joyce) Stothers
of Nile; one son, Wayne of
Edmonton, Alberta; 12
grandchildren;, and six
