Lucknow District Fire Chief, George
Whitby, has recommended the area of the
Lucknow Fire Hall used for storing trucks be
.,enlarged. Chief Whitby made his recom-
mendation to the Lucknow District Fire
Coriimittee at their meeting December 5.
Whitby suggested the area be enlarged by
either building a new bay along the west side
of the building or by an additon tothe south.
Following discussion, the committee decided'
extending the building to the south would be
the better idea.. Chief Whitby is getting
estimates of the`. cost of an addition.
The committee also approved the operat-
ing costs for the department would be split •
31 per cent for Ashfield, and 23 per cent for
each of Kinloss, West . Wawanosh and
Lucknow, for the years of 1979 and 1980.
Representatives from each• of the muncip=
alities on thecommittee are taking the
sharing of capital costs back to their councils
for discussion.. Each will. report on their
council's decision on how to share capital
costs, at the first meeting of the committee
in the -new. year. '
Chief Whitby tnade several further recom-
mendations to the conznnittee'.' He suggested
they look into the, purchase of a van to
replace .the fire .car, in the not too distant
future. Whitby said the van . is needed "to
carryy equipment and firemen.
` . He asked that power steering be obtained
for the tanker and requested that two more
air tanks be purchased at $18Q each. Chief
Whitby was : instructedt investigate the
possibility of power steering for the tanker.

Property taxes in the Village of Lucknow
will be paid three timesa year on Marcht-1:5,
June 15 and November 15. Previously, taxes
were paid twice a year in June and
November.
Lucknow village clerk, Alf Herbert said
the new method • will permit the village

borrowing of money too costly. With the first
tax payment. due in, March,. 'there will be
some cash flow at the time of year when the
first school levy is paid by the town.
The penalty fortax' arrears ,will .be.
increased from 1 per cent a month to 1'/4per
cent per month. This will be an increase of 3
per centover the year.
