Chief Whitby made his recom- mendation to the Lucknow District Fire Coriimittee at their meeting December 5. Whitby suggested the area be enlarged by either building a new bay along the west side of the building or by an additon tothe south. Following discussion, the committee decided' extending the building to the south would be the better idea.. Chief Whitby is getting estimates of the`. cost of an addition. The committee also approved the operat- ing costs for the department would be split • 31 per cent for Ashfield, and 23 per cent for each of Kinloss, West . Wawanosh and Lucknow, for the years of 1979 and 1980. Representatives from each• of the muncip= alities on thecommittee are taking the sharing of capital costs back to their councils for discussion.. Each will. report on their council's decision on how to share capital costs, at the first meeting of the committee in the -new. year. ' Chief Whitby tnade several further recom- mendations to the conznnittee'.' He suggested they look into the, purchase of a van to replace .the fire .car, in the not too distant future. Whitby said the van . is needed "to carryy equipment and firemen. ` . He asked that power steering be obtained for the tanker and requested that two more air tanks be purchased at $18Q each. Chief Whitby was : instructedt� investigate the possibility of power steering for the tanker. axes now aid three j Mmes a year Property taxes in the Village of Lucknow will be paid three timesa year on Marcht-1:5, June 15 and November 15. Previously, taxes were paid twice a year in June and November. Lucknow village clerk, Alf Herbert said the new method • will permit the village to borrow less money at,the beginning of the year. High 'interest rates have made the borrowing of money too costly. With the first tax payment. due in, March,. 'there will be some cash flow at the time of year when the first school levy is paid by the town. The penalty fortax' arrears ,will .be. increased from 1 per cent a month to 1'/4per cent per month. This will be an increase of 3 per centover the year. Council receives sewage works preliminary report Lucknow Village Council has received the preliminary report for the village's Sanitary Sewage Works prepared by B. M. Ross and Associates, consulting, civil engineers, 'God- erich. The report presents'in brief what work has been completed to date, and ,establishes a number of questions which must ' be answered, before a final report is' prepared. These questions -generally concern establish.= ing locations for the sewage pump` station and; treatment plant; and establishing boun- daries for the sanitary sewer service area. Ross recommended a meeting be held to discuss the aspects of the ,report with representatives of the, Ministry of Environ- ment ..and the Bruce Count; Health Unit in attendance. • Council plans'. to hold a meeting to discuss the report with these, representatives on January 15, 1980. 1 Effective March 1, 1980, hydro rates in the village'of Lucknow will increase 11 per cente A similar increase in the rates to the village from Ontario Hydro has made the increase necessary.
