On Monday afternoon
of last week Mrs. Mabel
Barnard had a gathering
of the neighbour ladies at
her home on Christina
Street. Among those
treated with a piece of the
anniversary wedding
cake and tea were
Christena Robertson,
Noreen and. Jean
• MacDonald, Pat Cornish,
•Mary Fludder, Jean
Dickinson, and Kay
Good. Later Mabel
visited her former neigh-
bour Fran Wylds 'with a
-piece of cake. All ,the
folks wish Norman and
Mabel well on their 45th
wedding anniversary.
Members of the family
and close friends
celebrated the occasion
with a dinner at the Bruce
Inn Kincardine on
Saturday evening, Oct. 20
Gone from Ripley's
main street is Mrs.
Shelley Barker. Better
known in this area by her
• maiden name 'Shelley
Brennan, she finished
three years of clerking in
her parents' grocery
store, Carl and Pat.

O'Donohue in Winnipeg.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
flew out from Toronto
• -airport on Friday evening -
arid: back, Sunday -
evening. They were Much
surprised to 'hear in-
• co ming 'passengers
telling how dry and warm
' it was in Toronto on that •
• Saturday and Sunday.,
Here,L.ws 79 degrees
while ,in Winnipeg the
ground was Covered with
snow., Mr. and Mrs.
O'bonohue . drove into
• Winnipeg from • Ignace.
• Bob,. whir? taught for four
years in the Ripley Huron.
Central School, is now
teahing in Ignaee in
' Northern Ontario, east of
Kenora • some distance.
While in Winnipeg Floyd
and Lynne were able to
visit their young nephew
:Brad Tollefson at St.
John's Cathedral Boys'
• School and. he was glad to
see thern.

just south of the railroad
crossing on the sideroad.
•Bobby Strathdee has
been living with his
daughter Arla, Mrs. Tom
Hutton at Hanover for
some time and oc-
casionally visits back in
Ripley. The move_hjas all
three brothers - John,
Allan and Wilfred -•living
on farms on the sixth
concession east in Huron
township.
Mr. and Mrs; Murdock
McDonald of Lucknow
•and former residents of -
the second concession
west of Smoky Hollow in
Huron township recently
enjoyed a trip to Eastern
Ontario. Among' the
places visited were
Peterborough, Ottawa,
and the Laurentians.

Kincardine, well known
retired nurse, a former
native and resident of
Huron township recently
returned hOrne from an
enjoyable month visiting
with relatives on the
•Canadian Prairies. She
visited with Mrs. KI -1.
Routledge in. Virden,
Manitoba: • Mrs.
Routledge is the former.
Ma3rPpilock, daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs Alf
Pollock. Then • they
visited with her' daughter
Mrs. John Mooney • in
Winnipeg and then :with
Mrs.' Routledge's sons
who'are good fariners at
Lenore in Manitoba'. Neict.
it was on to Edmonton to
visit a cousin Dr. George
Cumming • and family.
Mrs. Walden spent a
week visiting •her
grandson • Gary
MacKenzie near Stettler,
Alberta. Gary was just
home from Africa. Next
she visited with grandson
Douglas MacKenzie at
Sandre, Alberta. Sandre
is .a small town near the
- .
fciOthills.• He took her on
some very special trips
into the foothill country.
Here she. was able to see
great herds of beef cattle
grazing.. She also „ saw
here the • special ,farm
kept for grazing the
horses used in the world
famous„ • R.C.M.P.
Islusical Ride. He also
took her to see a real
trapper's cabin with its
barn and the things used
in this line of work.. Then
it was back to Calgary to
fly to Toronto airport.
Here she was met by her
'sbn Glen Walden of
Lucknow who drove his
mother home to Kin-
cardine. Gary and
Douglak, MacKenzie
mentioned above are the
sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
MacKenzie of the 12th
concession of Ashfield
(the LOchalsh area). Mrs.
Maeltenzie is the former
Bertha W'alderi, daughter
of Mrs. Bert Walden.
It seems lately that aS
sure as a, weeld comes
around the firerhistle in
Ripley is sure to sound
calling the firemen out.
Last weekend it hap-
pened three times - twice
on Friday, and one on
Sunday. About - eleven•
fifteen Friday forenoon
they received a call for
helping in dealing with
fire in one ' of the corn
dryers at. Mike
Snobelen's farm down the
fourth concession. Again
just after midnight the
siren sounded and the
firemen went to the
firehall where they
remained for some time
on "stand by” call if
needed -to fight the firein

eleven thirty in the
morning the firemen
were called to Point
• Clark where they were
able to save a house
• trailer owned by Cam-
• pbell Jamieson of Kit-
chener. It was located on
Courtney Crescent
second street south of
Point Clark Lighthouse.
' At least ten firemen
• answered each call.
Early Sunday morning,
Qct. 28, Gordon Harris of
Kincardine passed away
in Kincardine and
District Hospital in his
• 47th year. A few weeks
ago Gord underwent
• surgery in Owen. Sound.
He then. returned home.
On Friday he went into
Kincardine hospital. The
family funeral service
• was held at the Linklater
Funeral Home in kin.
