Lancers start seasonwith loss
The Lucknow Lancers have
some new players and a new
.coach this year. Tom Hill will
coach and the new players
are Grant Clark, Dennis Bur-
rows, Shawn Dalton, Paul
Simpson, Bob Surridge,
Blayne Shewfelt, Brian Blair
and goal tenders Ron Martin
and. Jim Frayne, who returns
from playing with Goderich
last year.
With these new players
and the players who -returned
front last year, the Lancers
should have a very compe-
titive team. First home game
for the Lancers will be Sun-
day, November 4 against the
Milverton Four Wheel Drives
at 7.30.
On Friday, October 19 the
Lancers travelled to Harris -
ton for their first game of the
season.
Lucknow played a .strong
first • period and came out
with the scored tied at three.
The. Lancers goals were
scored by newcomers,
Blayne Shewfelt got the first
goal assisted by Stanley and
Montgomery. Lucknow's
second goal came off the

The Lances played Wel-
lesley on Friday in Welles-
ley. Both teams came up with
a strong defensive game and
the goalieslplaye.d very well.
Lucknow opened the scor-
ing on a goal by John Mac-
Kenzie from Clark and Bur-
rows. Wellesley tied the
game at one each before the
first period ended.
MacKenzie scored again
from Clark and Stanley'in the
second period to give Luck -
now the lead and that's the
way the period ended.
In the third period 'the
Lancers', power' play carne up
with a goal as "Paul Simpson
blasted one past the Wel-
lesley goalie with assists
going to Clark and MacKen-
zie. Wellesley then came
back with some offense of
their own as they scored two
goals to gain the . tie. The
Lancers looked much strong-
er in this game but the lack of
ice time has hurt the team
and this was evident in the
later stages of the third
period.
