Student at Lucknow Central Public School
celebrated United Nations' Day October 24
by focussing uponchildren all over the world
with the theme, "Why Should I Care".
The students honoured their former health
nurth, Miss Ruth Thompson. Miss Thomp-
son has served this area for over 20 years
with „concern awl. caring for children. On
• behalf of the children of the • past 20 years,
• thank yoU for being here. We wish Miss
Thompsona long and happy retirement.
Each class made a short .presentation of
the country they studied.
The open area chose Mexico and demon-
strated a lively Mexican Hat Dance.
Grade 3/4 spoke on children in Africa. The
song Kum Ba Yah was sung.
Grade 5/6 gave a short discussion of life in
Scotland. Mr. Frank MacKenzie played the
bag pipes much to the enjoyment of the
students. Mr. MacKenzie fielded questions
from the students, and also let students
attemp to blow the pipes.
Grade 6 sang a Japanese traditional
children's song in traditional costume.
Grade 6/7 showed slides on Jamaica and
then held a limbo competition. Mary Brooks
was the clear winker among the students.:
There was no decisive winner among, the
staff, but Mrs. Pike demonstrated unusual
form.
Grade 7/8 displayed information . on
Russia on the wall. Several students spoke
on different aspects of the life of a child in
Russia.
Girade.8 displayed. slides on Wales.. Welsh
cakes and punch for everyone was an apt
way to conclude the celebration.

' Firemen Peter Steer and Ken Johnstone
worked with air packs to .contain the fire to
the den. Boer apartment and the adjoining
hallway.
The people left homeless by the fire have
found interim accommodation. The den Boer
family . is staying with Bob and Irene
Markham of Ashfield Township; Miss Webb
is with John and Anna Kreutzweiser of
Lucknow; Mrs. Vickers is staying with Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Guest, Kinlough and Claude
Tetreault is staying at the home of Grant
Helm and Sharon. Dietz, West Wawanosh.
