The results of the National • Walkathon for the Interna--' tional Year of the Child, were discussed. A good turnout of about 100 walkers from ages 10 and up were present, bringing in pledges of about $3100.00. Proceeds of the Walkathon will go to the Alliance for Life in Toronto, which researches the matters of abortions, the aged, handicapped and many other aspects of human life. It , was also moved to donate to the Wingham Hospital Fund in hope of helping to keep hospital beds open. Some of the funds will be used for education programs in the surrounding commun- ities. The group expressed its appreciation to all who par- ticipated in the Walkathon. HEART A new Resource kit, HEART (Help Educate Adult and Adolescent In Recreation Relationship Training) is be- ing explained at a Workshop in Lucknow United Church on Thursday. November 1 at 7:30 p.m. Under the auspices -of the Special Service Branch Mini - i airy of Culture and Recrea- tion, HEART was developed.° It vas compiled by an •Advis- t,ry Committee, representing '. municipal recreation depart- ments and youth. agencies throughout Ontario. Mrs° Aileen . Hawkins, a member of the .Advisory Committee, wil explain the HEART Kit's uges and func- tion. It is especially helpful as background and program material for Youth Workers. This Workshop is being`. arranged by the Tri -County CGIT Leaders' Fellowship and leaders of Guiding, Scouting and church youth. groups are invited to come and take advantage of this new resource. Centre open third clay each week The Wingham and Area Day Centre for' the Home- bound •-will soon openits doors to seniors a third day a week. The senior citizens the centre 'services must meet with the criterion of being homebound. Those seniors who live alone or who cannot completely care for them- selves qualify. Others seek the day care .services to relieve their families, of their total care one day a week. Several Lucknow residents come over once a week to the Wingham centre with volun- teer drivers. The group par- ticipate in a sing song,' exercises, games and cards. After a hearty noon meal, they join in an educational discussion followed by crafts. If any senior feels they qualify to come, more infor- mation is available by phon- ing 357-1440.
