lawn at the home of the
bride's mother,united' in,

Finlayson and John Therens
Balch, both of Calgary, Al-
berta on Saturday, Septem-
ber 1; l979, at 2 p.m.
The ceremony was per-
formed before'a pinecovered
arch decorated with pink
lilies and flanked by baskets
of summer flowers in deep
red, pink and white.
Rev. ,Hugh Nugent of Ash-
field Presbyterian ' Church
officiated at the double ring
;ceremony.
The bride is the daughter
of 'Mis, Dorothy Finlayson,
of R. 3 Lucknow and the late
Gordon Finlayson. The
groom is the son of Mrs.
Elizabeth. Balch . of Fresno,
California' and the late. James
Balch.
The bride, given in mar-
riage by her brother, Rod-
erick Finlayson. of Sarnia,
wore a mid-calf length cotton
voile dress in soft burgundy
and white print. She carried
a basket of roses and mums
in shades of deep red, pink
and . white.
Gwen Anne :McCauley of
Calgary was. Maid of honour,
wearing a mid-calf length'
dress of jersey silk in pink
and burgundy. She carried a
basket of mums in deep red,
pink and white shades.
Jennine Finlayson of Sar-
nia was flowergirl for her
aunt. She wore a ` pink and
white dotted swiss dress with
lace trim. She carried a
basket of mums in shades of
deep red, pink and white.
Craig . Jackson. of Calgary
was groomsman and the
guests were seated by the
bride's brothers, Alan, Ian
• and Kenneth Finlayson.
Andrew Rogerson of Wil-
lowdale, the bride's nephew,
was ringbearer.

A dinner was held at the
Ripley' -Huron Complex . fol-
lowed by an evening: recep-
tion for guests, friends and
• neighbours.
Cousin of the bride, 'Far
ghuar MacDonald of Bramp-
ton was the master of cere-
monies.
The coupleare residing in
Calgary. Alberta, wihere the
groom is employed with the
Calgary Postal, Service . and
the bride: is employed at the
William Roper Hull Treat-
ment Centre for Emotionally
Disturbed Children.

weekend visiting Dirk's par-

This week in Ripley
Organize plowing bee
Bill Godfrey of the
fourth concession west
returned home last
Thursday afternoon from
the Owen Sound General
and Marine Hospital. He
had been•apatient there
from • the previous
Saturday, Thanksgiving
weekend, Oct. 6, where he
was treated for
pneumonia. On his return
he was sure surprised to
find his neighbours had
just about finished their
work bee - doing his fall
plowing. Driving tractors
in the plowing bee were

Messenger, • Peter
Walden, Perrin and
Robbie . Lowry, Len
Elmes,. Leroy. Godfrey
and Murray Wilkins.
Bill's farm is the second
south on the top of the hill
above Lurgan. Thanks to
Eldy . Lowry who
brought word of the bee to
Fran here at the house
and to .' Mrs. Shirley
(Dave) Lowry for the
names. The first thing
Bill did last Thursday
afternoon upon entering
his home on . his return
was answer the writer's
phone call. Pt is sure nice
to see neighbours •of the
Reid's Corners area turn
out : to help. Bill.
Incidentally last Thur-
sday was about the only
time when the weather.
was favourable . to do
outside. work. Best wishes
to Bill for his complete'
recovery. '
Another cooperative
effort in the Ripley area
came to our attention' last.
Frtiday, afternoon when
Mrs. Eileen (Jack)
Carter of Ripley sent a
letter of thanks which she
had received from Frank
Field of • Hanover,
chairman" of the
Disability Transportation
Co-ops for Grey Bruce.
Mr. Field, former well
known Teeswater store
keeper is Prow disabled
using a .wheelchair and a
resident at Chateau
Gardens in Hanover.
Mr. Field sent this
letter 'of thanks to Mrs:-

$650 • towards' :,:a :tran-
sportation vehicle to take
disabled persons in the
Grey Bruce area to
centres of. treatment.
Mrs. Carter and the
ladies in her last year's
night school class in
quilting at the night
school : classes at . the
Ripley District High
School-deeided to make .a
group quilt toraise funds
for a worthy project. The
design chosen for the
quilt was the Texas Star
andeach class member
did one point at home.
Mrs. Carter then sewed
these together. About last
May the quilt was set up
for the quilting at the
home of "Mrs. Deane
(Pete) Guikema, two
blocks west of Ripley or
halfway to Pine River on
the eighth concession,
There the group in-
creased by) two ladies of'a
previous class met and
did the quilting, Deane
says that they had the
quilt finished in a couple
of weeks last May.
Then Mrs. Judy
(Frank) van Kooten
offered to display the
quilt in her shop in the old
Ripley Royal. Bank on the
main corner. Her `shop is
known as Lynn's Hobbies
and Textiles and She also
sold raffle tickets here
during . the summer. On
Fri. Sept. 28'the quilt was
taken. to'the Ripley Huron
Community Complex
Centre to be displayed for
the Ripley fall fair.
Further tickets were sold
on Friday evening and on
Saturday. .
Mr. Field was at the
Complex during the fall
fair to assist in promoting
the project and about four
on Saturday afternoon he
made the draw for the
lucky raffle ticket. The
winner .of the quilt ,was
'Mrs. Lois • Johnston of.
Paisley - reported to be a
niece ' of Mrs. Martha
MacIver of Ripley..

On Saturday evening.
the 45th wedding an-
niversary party in honour
of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose
Gamble was held in the
Ripley Huron Community
Centre Complex. It was
arranged by their family
- Josephine of Blyth, John

Huron Township, Wilfred
of Ripley and their
families. Many relatives
and friends .went' to the
Complex - to wish
Ambrose and Marion
many happy returns and
enjoy themselves with
them, for the evening.
On Tuesday of last
week, Mr. and Mrs. Wray
Osborne of the fifteenth,
two blocks north of
Ripley, took up residence
in the Chateau Gardens in
Hanover. Recently Wray
sold his farm, the former
Jack Patterson farm at
the corner of the 12th and
15th, to Sandy and Margie
Pollock who aremoving
back to this area. Sandy,
is the son' of Wally and
Elaine Pollock and
Margie is the daughter of
Don and Anna
MacTav4sh. On Friday

were moved to Kin-
cardine for, Bervie
auctioneer Dorne
McLelland to sell on his
last. Saturday's con-
signment sale. Helping
Wray and Mae in the
tnovfng were Wally and
Elaine Pollock, Don.

neighbour Jim Brooks.

received mention on the
Wingham radio market
reports last week for a
top shipment of beef
cattle.
