HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1979-10-10, Page 24Page 24--Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, October 10, 1979 Conductor of Centennial Choir Bob Hall, who attended school in Lucknow, has been appointed conductor of the Canadian Centennial Choir in Ottawa. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Hall of Owen Sound,. he is- a graduate of the OSCVI, and has a• master of music degree from the Uni- veristy of Western Ontario, London. He has five years conducting experience with such choirs as the Vancouver Chamber Choir, an assistant to Jon Washburn, and as conductor of the London Capella Singers and the Elmira Regional Group Men- nonite Mass Choir. For five yearshe has sung with the Ontario Youth Choir and three days a week is now singingmith the Tudor Sing- ers in Montreal, a profes- sional choir. He has appear- ed as bass soloist with the Mennonite Choir and the Georgian Bay Community Choir and Orchestra. He has also been the accompanist for both the Kitchener Phil- harmonic Choir and London Pro Musica. Mr. Hall will be organist and choir director at St. Richard's Anglican Church in Nepean for the coming season. He will be teaching piano, voice and theory priv- ately. Bob Hewat's great aunt, Miss Lorna Campbell of Lucknow, was unable to be present as she has been hospitalized at Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hewat of Vancouver visited with relatives in the community on Thanksgiving weekend. Bob and Roberta were at- tending . a business meeting in New York City arid also combined the trip east with a vacation in St, Thomas and St. Croix in the Virgin Is- lands, Bob is the son of 'Mt. and Mrs. William (Frances Thompson) Hewat of Elmira. A family gathering was held in their honour at the home of Bev andDon Thompson in Lucknow ,on Monday. In attendance were Bev, Don, Susan and Don- alda Thompson, Nancy hav- ing missed the gathering, being a patient in Wingham and District Hospital from Friday to Tuesday; Bill and Frances Hewat of Elmira; This Week to LUCKNOW Omar Brooks won first for his team of percherons at the Erin Fair on the weekend. R. 1 Powa- sson. Thanksgiving guests on Sunday, with Mr. and. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ed- gar of Goderich and Frank Johnston of Lucknow visited with Mr. and Mts. 'Lloyd McFall. recently. Mr. and Mrs: Edgar sold their farm to Chester Finnigan recently and are now making their home in Goderich. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rit- chie returned home -on 'Sun- day after spending a ten day holiday with their son Bob, Susan and Brett at Mayer- thorpe, Alberta. They all enjoyed a weekend at Jasper during their visit. The annual Thanksgiving dinner was held at MacKen- zie's Cottage camp on Sun- day afternoon. Over fifty seasonal and . overnight guests sat down to a delic- ious smorgasbord dinner and enjoyed a social afternoon to" Mrs. Matt Plant, and new ;wind up the season of 1979. Tea for. -Janet Cook A going away tea was held at the home of Mrs. Wilfred Drennan•,• Wednesday, Oct- ober 3, for neighbour, Mrs. Janet Cook, who with her husband, Rev. Cook, is mov- ing shortly from the Ashfield charge, to their new charge in Saskatchewan. During a chit chat, the neighbours sang a goodwill wishes card, and the hostess pinned a beautiful shrimp coloured Peace rose on Jan- et, which Mrs. Drennan had picked from her rose bed. All . formed a circle and clasped 'hands, and sang Blest be the tie that binds. Dainty refreshments were served by neighbours, Susan Moffat, Margaret Cameron, Donalda Ritchie, and the hostess, Mrs. Cook expressed her appreciation to her neigh- bour for their thoughtfulness and kindness.
