Mrs. Evelyn Irwin of Ripley had the cham- pionship quilt - a beautiful piece of work, About 33 quilts were on display. A summary of the ladies' classes as posted is as follows: Flowers - Mrs. Ewan MacLean of Lochalsh, 84 points, Mrs. Duncan MacLeod, 59 of Ripley, Mrs. Glen Stanley of Clarks, 54; Needlepoint quilts - Mrs. Geo. McKee of Armow, Miscellaneous - iVirs, Thos. Henderson ,of Kincardine; Men's Wear - Mrs. Grace Peet of Ripley; Ladies' Wear Mrs. Grace Peet, Mrs. Stewart Farrell of 10th, Mrs. Margaret Harkness of Bervie, Mrs. June Jackowski, all tied. Sorry we missed the baking class but it looked appealing. Also the high school class, the. Junior Class, the commercial, and wool classes, . but time ran out and these will be given later. . There were four at- tractive displays of the local Women's Institutes as follows: Reid's Cor- ners, .'Purple Grove, Bervie and Ripley. The summaryfor the Arts and Crafts', display showed Marion McCharles of Lochalsh first, Gloria Ferrier of Bervie, second, Sharon Courtney of the second, third. For the most points (total) covering domestic science, needlework, arts and crafts, it was Mrs. George McKee of Armow first, Mrs. Thos. Hen- derson of Kincardine second, and Mrs. Marion McC,harles of Lochalsh a- very close third. .The Ao'veaccount gives the readers some idea of the show in the Complex. The outdoor •show on Saturday started at noon with the Sea forth ,District Fl.igh School Girls Mar- ching .Band, the O.P,F. car and car with the officials leading the 'parade. And also in the parade the Kincardine Scottish Pipes and Drums just hack from taking part in the Ontario Massed Legion Band's tour in Scotland. It was. simply a great parade. Next week we will try to give a furtheraccount giving some idea of the opening, the variety program, the . horse shows, the 4-H calf shows, the pet show and not forget - the wonderful poultry show in the Huron Township hall basement where directors Cecil Sutton and Ted Rouse had worked long hours to make the necessary arrangements along with willing assistants. Then there were all those corn sheaves standing around the curved end of the arena - 30 there and ten on the west side for a total of 40. In . front was Bob Rutledge's stand filled with yellow cobs of corn - entries by the dozens. The judging of them. was the last and ended a little before seven thirty in the evening. In the hay there were 19 first cutentries and several in second cut hay. Bob Osborne had the championship with his second cut entry and John C. MacDonald with his first cut entry. In the grain show there was a total of 63 bags entered. Results were as follows with the champion named first followed by the reserve wheat - Carman Bridge, Harold Courtney; oats - Grant McDonald, Stewart Farrell; barley - John C. MacDonald, Rosnor Farms. There were 12 bags of flax seed with Courtney MacDonald first, Grant McDonald ' second, and Jerry Huber third. We think Grant was second. We missed writing down the names for the mixed. grain - these will appear later. In the white beans Dennis and Carman Bridge had the top prizes. Harold Courtney had the prizes in red clover, timothy and alfalfa. There were also entries in . trefoil, shelled corn, and the sheaf show. In the fancy sheaves the placings were wheat, Norman _Schmidt, Fran Wylds, Ab Wylds. Judge Glen Dickson founded these three sheaves very. close., Barley, Norman., Ab, Fran, and Donna Bruder of Paisley; oats, Ab- Wylds, Fran Wylds, Norman Schmidt .,and. Donna Bruder; champion sheaf, Norman Schmidt, reserve sheaf, Ab Wylds. Horse show results BY NINA WYLD A beautiful Saturday morning started 'the light horse show with sunshine and mild temperatures. What a change from. the last two years when the rodeo shows got rained out. - Riders from as far as Sarnia arrived, others came from Clinton, Lucknow, Ripley, Kin- cardine, Tiverton, Teeswater, Goderich, Holland Centre, Mildmay and Durham.. The judge for the day was Nancy Beacon, RRI Flesherton who did an excellent job in judging all the beautiful ponies and „ horses and .good riders. All the different classes went smoothly thanks to all the help from .everyone.. Thank you Grant MacDonald for letti g them use your noun' system and to ever' one who helped in any ay.
