A family dinner was held at the Hartley House, Walkerton. Those present were the honoured couple, their family, Mr. and Mrs. George Bushell, David and inc Fraser, Edwin and Jan- ice, Armow; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Breckles, Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald and Mr, and Mrs. Russell Bush- ell from here, Mrs. Mary Ste- wart, Millarton and Mrs. Maude Thompson, Kincard- ine. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lemon of Burlington spent Thanks-, giving with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Page and family, con- cession 10. • Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott spent the weekend in Detroit with Mr. and Mrs. Rudy • Sieloff and family to cele- brate both couples' wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Morley J3ushell of Wingham visited on Sunday with Mrs. John Barr and with Mr. and Mrs. Donald McEwan. We are sorry to report Mrs. Arthur Haldenby is a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barr held a Thanksgiving family dinner on Sunday, Present - were -Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert, Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hamilton and family, Lucknow; Mr. and Mrs. John Hamilton, Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. 13ill Hamilton, Burling- ton; Miss Bonnie Hamilton, • Mississauga; Keith. Hamil ton, Sault Ste. Marie; Miss Betty Hainqton, Niagara; Mrs. Bel Malloy of Montreal; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Fair, • Kitchener, and Miss Mich- elle Hodgins. Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Hog- an of Glencoe and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Graham visited with Mrs. George Graham for Thanksgiving. The community is pleased that Edburt Bushell got home 'from Kincardine Hos- pital and Donald McEwan from Wingham Hospital. We wish them both improved health. HOLYROOD W.I. The Holyrood W.I. met on Thursday afternoon at the home, of Mrs. Harold Smith. Mrs. Alex Percy presided. Mrs. John Scott read the minutes, the financial report and the correspondence. It was decided to have the basement floor in the hall painted with the Institute supplying the paint and labour. Mrs. Alex Percy, delegate to the Grey-I3ruce Area Convention, gave a report. This meeting was "Family and Consumer Affairs" and observance of the Interna- tional Year of the Child. The conveners, Mrs. Lorne Eadie and Mrs. Frank Maulden, took charge and the program began with scripture reading and meditation on the bible passage, "Suffer the little children to come onto me" and closing with prayer by Miss May Boyle. The topic was "Child Abuse" given by .the guest speaker, Mrs. Don Forster of Purple Grove, who told of many cases of children being abused. Mrs. Charlie Murray thanked Mrs. Forster and presented her with a gift. Mrs. Frank Maulden gave a reading, "Jesus loves me", by Helen Steiner Rice. Mrs. Howard Thotnpson also of Purple Grove gave a most interesting demonstra- tion on cake e0Wating. She showed various kinds of cakes decorated for special occasions and and gave each lady a try at icing a cake. The birthday cake was given to Miss May Boyle, it being her birthday, and it was cut and served to the ladies later. Mrs. Harold Smith had the closest anniversary and also received a cake, and some small cakes were given to the children. Miss Edna Boyle thanked Mrs. Thompson and gave her • a gift in appreciation. Mrs. Lorne Eadie gave the motto and a poem, "Just a Boy", and gave the courtesies. A • lovely lunch was served by the hostess and her daught- ers. Work on needlepoint ST. HELENS 4-11 The first meeting of the St. Flelens 4-H club was held on Saturday, September 30, in the St. Helens hall. The election of officers then took place with the following results: president, Suzanne Kirkland; vice pres- ident, Sofie ,I3ey,ersbergen; treasurer, Marian Raynard; and secretary -press reporter, • rotation. Leaders are Mrs. Luba Weber and Mrs. Norma Raynard. , The girls prepared their canvas by marking and tap- ing,, and chose their colours. The • leaders demonstrated the Gobelin Stitch. THRIFTY THREADERS THIRD MEETING By Donna Drennan The third meeting of the Kingsbridge 4-H "Thrifty Threaders" took place at the home of Mrs. Barb Van Diep- enbeek, .on September 27. President, Debbie Dren- nan, opened the meeting. Leaders, Barb Van Diep- enbeek and Donna Hogan discussed and demonstrated the Bargello stitch, the Cross stitch and how to transfer a design to canvas. FOURTH MEETING By Pliancy Miltenburg The fourth meeting of the Kingsbridge Thrifty Thread- ers was held on October 4 at the home of Barb Van Diep- enbeek. Mrs, Donna Hogan read the members the history csf needlepoint while the mem- bers were completing the stitches Barb had shown them. The members did each of the stitches on their canvas. Barb showed the seniors how to do the Brick stitch while Donna helped the juniors with their stitches.
