Many from our area at- tended the ploughing match held at Chatham this year. Many Stayed for the weekend - with friends or relatives and others had motor homes. Reverend and .Mrs. Mc- Clenaghan .of Paisley visited with Mr, and Mrs. Robert Irvin on Sunday. • The September meeting of. the Dungannon Agricultural Society drew a small attend- ance. President Bob Wright chaired the meeting, on Sept- ember 25th at the hall. Secretary Dorothy 'Brown read the minutes, which were adopted as read. .The treasurer's report was given by. Lynda McNee. Several items of business were dis- cussed such as building a food booth which can be transported to 'different ev- ents such as tractor pulls etc. Joanne Whitney, was asked to compare the different prices on money boxes for future purchase. The addi- tion of a show case at the hail for, trophies, plaques etc. Was discussed. it was decided by those present to host the 1080 Fall district 8 agriculture meet- ing,. It is hoped more, people Will get out and attend these meetings and- show an inter- est in their community. Mrs. Joy Vella of Seaforth visited her aunt, Mrs. Mary Here on Sunday and accom:- •panied her to Belmore to visit Mr, and' Mrs. Ken Weber (nee Dale McNee) and fam- ily. Mrs. Gerry I3ere spent a - few days last week in Wing - ham Hospital. • Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mac- Donald of Kitchener. visited Sue's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Godfrey, on the weekend. 'Mr. and Mrs. Grant Sew- erby of Toronto visited her mother, Mrs. Cecil Blake, and Grant's parents in God- erich Township on the week- end. Congratulations to Alvin and. Myrtle, Kerr who will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with a dance this Saturday evening at the Agriculture Hall. Mr. and. Mrs. -Alvin Kerr retnined home, on Wednes- day; following. a four week visit at Arcola, Saskatchew- an, with his sister, Violet and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Anderson. Leola Chisholm was home for the weekend with her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chisholm. Leola is enrolled in the two year registered nursing course at Stratford Conestoga College. Thos. , Webster returned home on Thursday • from Wingham Hospital, where he had been hospitalized follow- ing a tumble from a ladder a week ago. He is still feeling quite stiff and sore. Mrs.Mary McFarlan and •son, James .of , Kinlough, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Benson Shackleton and son, Gerald of. Dungannon on Sunday evening for dinner. Valerie Shackleton of Han - aver visited with her parents, . Mr, and Mrs. Benson Shack- leton, Dungannon, over the weekend. • Sherwoods Transportation took a bus load of Dun= gannon area residents to the Plowing Match On Friday. The joint Dungannon -Nile choir sang three numbers, "Morning Has Broken", "The Lily of the Valley", and "Id the Garden", led by painist, Mrs. Jean:Elliott. Helen Elliott sang a seta, "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You". A, warm welcome was extended to Dr. Hazelwood and to Mrs. Haz- elwood who also attended the service. Nile Hi -C met on Sunday evening at the church for an Purple Grove • A successful Ripley. Fall Fair was held on Saturday. Congratulations on a job well done go to all these from this area who acted as directors and worked hard to make the fair so enjoyable. Purple Grove was -well represented in exhibit S and attendance. ' The weatherman co- operated in providing a sunny warm day for one of the most successful fairs ever. Several from this area attended the Fall Fair dance held in the Ripley Complex on ' Saturday night. Students home for the weekend and attending the Ripley Fall Fair were Bonnie, Kerry and Heather Boyle and Robbie Sutton. Some ladies from the Purple Grove Women's Institute catered to the • Lions Club banquet in the Purple Grove Com- munity Ceritre on Wed- nesday night. Those attending the International Plowing Match near Chatham this week were: Mr. Francis Boyle, Mr, Bob Thom- pson and Mr.. and Mrs. John Rimmelzwaan. They discussed ehips and granola bar sales, also choc- olate bar sales It Hallow- e'en. • The Fifty Mile Club has started. The club is formed to Promote physical activity and a student must run 50 miles or 200 laps of the track. It is hoped that many students will participate. Enthusiasm is high: so far.
