4-H clubs begin needlework program

The . first meeting of the
Holyrood 441 was held at
Mrs.Barb Gingrich's on Sept-
ember 20. The, leader, Mrs.
Gingrich, welcomed every-
one and the members intro-
duced themselves. Among
the members are Joy Ackert,
who is also assistant leader.
Mrs. Gingrich handed out
the books and then the group
looked at the first couple of
pages in the book after which
they,'`had the election of
officers. Results are as fol-
lows: president, Beth Gin-
grich; vice-president, Wilma
Duiker; secretary, LeaAnne
Haldenby and Lori Gingrich
as press reporter.
Mrs. Gingrich talked about
different types of canvass
and yarns which were passed
around for the girls tolook
at. She also read different
sections ° on' yarns and yarn
requirements. Everyone re-
ceived a. piece of canvass and
put a masking tape boarder
around the edges.
Mrs. Ackert talked to the
group about colours . and
colour schemes after which
they split up into two groups
to mark their canvass. Mrs:.
Gingrich took the girls who
planned on making. the seven
stitch sampler and Mrs.
Ackert took the girls who
wanted to make coasters.
Continental
Cuties

The second meeting of the
Holyrood 4-H group was held
on September 27th at Mrs.
Gingrich's. Secretary, Lea -
Anne Haldenby read the
minutes from meeting one.
Roll call, which was showing
what we. would do for our
free choice article, was an-
swered by most members.
Club names were then
discussed and somesugges-
tions were as follows: Pointer
Sisters, Niffty Needlers,
Peachy Pointers, Crafty Can-
vassers and Continental Cut-
ies. By a show 'of hands,
Continental Cuties was chos-
en.
Cover designs were also
discussed and also by a show
of hands. It was decided
everyone do their covers the
same. For achievement day
the Continental Cuties will
be doing a skit, topic not yet
decided.
The meeting was then
handed over to leader, Mrs.
Gingrich who explained
home assignments and roll
calls to new members and
the check list for the different
stitches was considered. She
read a letter, which was
received from the Home
Economist, that told the re-
quirements for both senior
and junior members.
Mrs. Ackert taught the
girls how to thread the

Needlers

The fourth meeting of the
Nifty Needlers was held on
September 26 at the home of
Jayne Ritchie.
The president, Michele
Humphrey, called the meet-
ing to order and twelve
members repeated the 4-H
pledge.
The Home Assignments
and roll call were answered.
by the members. The next
meeting will be a work
meeting and the books are to
be handed in at this meeting.
Mrs. Ritchie discussed the
history of the needle point.
Miss Hackett demonstrat-
ed the cashmere and brick
stitch. Mrs. Ritchie demon-
strated the Scotch stitch.
The members did each
stitch on their sampler. Theo
junior members did the brick
stitch on a separate piece of
canvass because they are not
required to do this stitch on
their sample.
The meeting closed with
