PRODUCE BEST FLAT OF EGGS, WHITE - Steve Chicken farmers ir ill be hurt Ontario chicken producers will be seriously hurt unless the Federal Government tak- es a strong stand in next week's negotiations with the U.S. on broiler imports, Peter Hannam, President, Ontario Federation of Agri- culture (OFA), said today. Hannam said farmers have seen Canadians go cap in hand to the Americans too often to be optimistic about the negotiations due to begin on September 19. "The Americans know how to be tough," he said. "When Canada arrested a few U,S. tuna fishermen, what happened? The Ameri- cans embargoed our tuna. That's the kind of backbone our negotiatois need." He said the current prob- len1 with chicken imports has developed because the previ- ous government had procras- tinated in establishing a na- tional chicken agency. A few companies, in the hope of receiving large import quot- as, have taken advantage of the delay by increasing their chicken imports. Alton, R. Z Lucknow; Lorne Hackett, R. 3 Lucknow.
