Mrs. Jenke in her letter to Mrs. Elliott states that although the, cause of the disease is still unknown considerable progress has been made in its treatment. The annual canvass for funds will be made in this area following this meeting. The slogan is "Give more than a thought to ar- thritis." Last Friday while working at the Bruce Nuclear Plant Roger Cuillerieril 35, was severely burned. Ile suffered second degree burns to his upper right side including his face, arm, and right hand. Roger was taken to Kincardine and District Hospital then tran- sferred to the University Hospital in London where he .is being treated. A second man from. Walkerton who was working with him was treated at Kincardine Hospital and released. Roger lives on the 8th Concession, the second farm east of the Huron Kinloss boundary and just past the. Ellwood Elliott - Cecil Congram corner three blocks east of Ripley and halfway to Holyrood. It was once. known as Harris Corners. The injured: men were pipe welders working for the Lummus Company. And it is believed that a spark from .the ''weldin.g torch ignited the fire. Roger is known in the Ripley Holyrood area and friends here wish him full recovery from his painful burns and a return home to his folks and. farm. This Monday's noon radio news reported that Roger is now in satisfactory condition. Wilson and Martha Ford left last Saturday in their car to motor home to Coburg after visiting lastweek with her sister Christena Robertson in Ripley. Miss Betty Anne Godfrey .is recuperating after surgery. with Mr. and Mrs. Reg Godfrey. Mr: and Mrs. Roy Webster of London, Mr. and Mrs. George. Cold - well and Mr. Currie Coldwell of Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Don McCosh were Sunday visitors of Mrs. Gladys Mason of Ripley. A number from this community attended the wedding and reception of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Farrell at Dungannon and Lucknow on Sat. Sept. 8. Congratulations to Fran and Jim. Mr. Clarence Bryans of Kincardine conducted the Service in St. Andrews United Church on Sun- day. The sermon was by Mr: Ron Wells of Paisley speakingon the behalf of the Gideons. . Smack in the middle of the noon hour last Sun- day, , Sept. 9 the fire whistle sounded in Riplyy. Firemenan- swering the call were chief Ivan Cook, Doug Liddle, George McLean, John Dodds, Allan Irwin, Harvey' Pollock, .Donnie Peterbaugh, Joe Hodgins, Ray Fuller, Rod MacDonald, Bob John- ston, and John D. MacKay. In a few minutes they had the new fire engine and tanker truck roun- ding the bank corner and on their way down the eighth concession. It was a chimney fire at the new homeof Andy and Barb Burgess and family in the second block west of Ripley. A south wind was blowing up the hill and no doubt contributed to the fire. The firemen soon. had it out and were back to the firehall in about an hour. Our thanks to. Hooey who lived and farmed on lot 21 on the 4th concession west in Huron township, one block west of the 15th, gathered at the Parish Hall in the village of Lurgan at the foot of the Fourth last Sun. afternoon, Sept: 9. Forty in all sat down to a smorgasbord dinner. They were present from Toronto,' Orillia, Kin- cardine, Ripley, and Lucknow to enjoy a social, time. In the nearby park, with its tennis court, swings, teeter-totters and ball diamonds all. provided by the Ripley and District Lions Club there -were attractions for those of all ages. Friday Nick and Grace Peet of Ripley and his brother and wife Mr. and Mrs: Samuel Peet of Gorkum in.. Hol -land returned home to Ripley from a three week motor vacation trip to Western Canada and United States. They motored as far as Big Sandy in Montana. On the - trip out. • they passed through Manitoba, Saskatchewan and then into Montana. On ` the way home they Coughins attend Cossitt reunion Mr. and Mrs. Len Coughlin and family attended the Cossitt Family reunion . held on Saturday; Sept. 2 at Campbellville near Burlington. The supper. was served' in the United Church basement at six o'clock after . which the evening was spent playing games and en- joying a social . time. Thirty-five members of the family were present for the reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Springer and family visited in. Burlington on the holiday weekend. Margaret Moffat of Toronto, who had been staying in Teeswater during the illness and death of her brother Graham Moffat, returned. to Toronto on Saturday, Sept. 1. Russell Young : and Debbie Ferguson of Toronto spent the holiday weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Young. William Young who broke his leg in a farm accident May 14 had the cast removed on Aug. 28 but is still using crutches fora while to get around. School is now underway. for another term and we wish all the scholars good luck as they start their studies this fall. Several .fall . fairs were held this weekend and more are scheduled for next week which means that summer is nearly over. Another sign of fall is flocks of wild geese which were seen flying south. Sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Young and Mr. and Mrs. Don Wall in the loss of their uncle Maurice Hodgin who passed away last Tuesday. The funeral was held from" Lucknow funeral home on Thur- sday. hursday.; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Miller and family of Fergus spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Miller and family and all attended a' barbecue at the farm home of Mr. ,and Mrs. Dave Wisner of Kitchener on Saturday afternoon. They had an enjoyable trip. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald. Wells and family of Paisley visited last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Osborne and daughters. Mr. Wells was the guest speaker at St. Andrews and Mr. and Mrs. Wells and family also contributed to the service with their singing. Miss. Joyce Osborne, now registered in the University of Guelph was home for the weekend visiting with her parents Bob and Muriel and her sisters at their home on concession 4 east, Huron township.
