Couple celebrates
50th anniversary
The marriage took
place Sept. 11, 1929 of -
Spence and Mildred Irwin
in Auburn United Church
Manse at .high noon. She
was the former Mildred
Robertson of Auburn and
was •born on •Base Line
south of Auburn. Her
attendants were Evelyn.
Shera a very dear friend
who lived at Kippen at
that time and Mildred's
brother was best , man,
• who lives in Seaforth.
Evelyn Shera passed
away Jan. 12,1979.
Spence and Mildred
farmed on the tenth of.
Ashfield which his father
farmed and it .was
cleared by ,Spence's
grandfather tight from.
Ireland. The Spences had
three children, Laura ,at
Brampton,. George in
Casehe .Creek and „Ross
here in. Lucknow. They
had .a wonderful 50th
Golden Wedding Party
which a lot attended.
There was their great
granddaughter Tammy
from . Sault Ste. Marie
and Lorraine and Terry
Coughlin, Dave and
Jannette .Howard from
Mississauga, Bob and
Ruth Currier. from
London, Wes and Rhonda
Nelson from Hanover.

Clover Valley
club meeting
The Clover Valley Club
held their first meeting
on Monday; September .3
at 7:00 at the home of
Donna Elphick with
seven, members in at-
tendance. The project is
all about "Needlepoint" -
an inspiring occupation.
Mrs. Fran. Elphick
opened the meeting by
repeating the 4-11 Pledge.
Gayle MacKenzie took
over the position of
President and continued
with the election of of-
ficers. They are as
follows: Vice -President -
Elizabeth Wilkens;
Secretary - rotating;
Treasurer - Sheila
Osborne; Press Reporter'
- rotating. The name and
design for the club is
being left until the next
meeting. The next
meeting is being held at
the home of Charlene
Elphick on September 15
at 9:30 a.m.
Mrs. May've Wilkens
gave the, members an
outline of the project..
Then both leaders
discussed project
requirements, the work
box and needlepoint 'file.
Later Mrs. Wilkens
discussed and showed
samples .of canvas and
thread,
The members then
bound their canvas with
masking tape and
outlined their design onto
the. canvas. Both leaders
discussed colour with the
members. They then
practise.d the gobelin
stitch On a Sample that cr,
could later be made into a
coaster. The meeting was
closed with the .4-11
