'The Lucknow Branch of
the Canadian Cancer
Society had an executive
meeting ' on Monday,
September 10. The
meeting was to help the
transition from the old
executive to the new,
executive, to finalize
preparations for the
Lucknow Fall Fair, and
to plan for the coming
year.
The new executive is as
rollows: Past President -
Margaret Hamilton;
'resident - William
lunshaw; Secretary -
ir et ta Johnston;
ireasurer - Margaret
Corrin; Service to
Patients - Bonnie Ackert;
Transportation - Wes
Young; Special Events -
Roberta Whytock;
Campaign - Anna
Kreutzweiser and
Mildred Loree and
Education - unfilled.
Members of the
outgoing executive are
helping .the • incoming
executive to accustom
themselves to their
duties. These include
helping cancer patients
with dressings, drugs,
home visiting, nursing
service, lodge ae-
commodation, and
transportation to clinics
• in Wingharn and to
hospitals in London. Also
there are special events
to inform people of the
work of the Canadian
Cancer Society and to
educate people about
cancer.
The campaign raises
money for research (57,
percent), service to
patients (14 percent),
education (12 percent),
lodges (6 percent), ad-
ministration (6 percent),
and fund raising (5
percent).
Plans for the Lucknow
Fall Fair were finalized.
Films will be shown,
largely aimed at children
who have provided most
of the audience in former
years. There will be in-
formation about the work
of: the Canadian Cancer
Society. Prizes will be
given to children who
have made greeting
cards and tray favours
for _patients ; entries will
•
be displayed at the fair.
There was discussion of
the unfilled position of
Education Chairman.
The basic principle upon
which the Canadian
Cancer Society was
founded was education of
the public. The Society
aSsunied the respon-
sibility of bringing to the
people a message of hope
if they would but go to see
their doctors when the
_first symptoms of cancer
appear. Names were
suggested for Education
Chairman; •these people
will be approached and
asked to serve.
Plans were made for
this year. One aim is for
the Lucknow Branch to
let people know we are
here and to know how we
can help them. We will be
trying to advertise
• ourselves and will be
having several special
events for the. public. A
coffee house, daffodil tea,
and forum were
discussed.. We •will
probably be having a
coffee house such as we •
had last autumn. •
