On Tuesday forenoon
of last week just before
dinner, Mrs. Elsie
Forrester of Malcolm
Street, had the misfor-
tune
to have part of one of
her toes cut off while
operating her lawn
mower. She was taken to
Kincardine hospital by
her neighbour Noreen
MacDonald and was able
to return home after
treatment. At present her
daughter Mrs. Barbara
Barber of Norwood, east
of Peterborough, is here.
Also last week it was
reported that Mrs. Rose
Jewell of Lucknow and
formerly of Ripley, was
taken to a London
hospital after suffering a
fall. Mrs. Jewell is the
sister of Johnny MacKay
of Ripley. Ripley friends
send their sympathy and
wish her recovery.

Dick has been known to
some of us here Ptir many
years now. Mr. and Mrs.
Goodin have a summer
cottage at Bruce Beach
where a few years ago he
grew potatoes which won
prizes at the Roy\al
Winter Fair. Last year I
think that he said he
made 18 trips between
Oakville and Bruce
Beach. His cottage is
between the 8th and 10th
concessions of Huron
township. Besides
promoting the sale of
rutabagas he has done
the same work in getting
an increase in Ontario
maple syrup production.
For many years while
they'had a grain show at
the C.N.E. Dick was one

peting with English.
Last Friday noon,
Henry Down of Stoney
Creek, east of Hamilton,
called on Fran and Ab
Wylds and also met
Norman Schmidt here.
Henry will be : remem-
bered by many in this
area as the Kincardine
beekeeper having his
honey plant at the
Fourway Stop. The
building is now the Co-op
Store. Since then he has
been a high school
mathematics teacher.: He
was a member of the
math staff headed by
former Ripleyite Gordon
Munn at Saltfleet High
School for something like
14 years. Now both Gord
and Henry like Ab Wylds
are retired Math
teachers. Henry brought'
us a copy of the Dofasco
Illustrated news - the
magazine : put out by
Dofasco, one of the two
big- steel companies in
Hamilton. In it was a full
coloured page showing
Henry with one of his
completed jigsaw puz-
zles. This is one of his
hobbies and he gives
these away mainly to -
interested children.
-However, he will take a
picture ofsome notable
person say a Premier
and make it into a jigsaw
puzzle and send it as a
gift to that person. In
return he has received
letters of thanks from
Provincial Premiers,
Governors General, even
Her Majesty the Queen
and others. In the in-
terview written up to
accompany the picture
Henry explains how he
applies math in making
these puzzles.- He is still
interested in bees as a
study and while here he
had a brief- chat with
Morrison MacKenzie on
the work of the bees this
year. Henry on his way
here stopped at Lucknow
and after leaving here
was on his way out the
15th north to. Millarton.
He intended to call at Mel
Dahmer's. farm at
Millarton to see the
historic armoury shed.
Then he planned to visit
with Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Munn at their
Bruce Beach cottage.
Henry is also interested
in geology and,has a large
collection at his home in
Stoney Creek. He also
grows. different . herbs.
And ' wherever he goes,
Henry makes friends.
