Hope to sponsor refugee
A meeting was held last
Tuesday evening,.Aug.
14, 1979 in Knox
Presbyterian Church in
Ripley to discuss the
• Vietnamese boat people
— the ones adrift in boats
on the Souh' China seas.
It . was attended by
delegates, official and
unofficial, from the
• different churches in the
Ripley -Huron Township
areas. They were Knox
Presbyterian, St.
Andrew's United, and St.
Paul's Anglican, all in
Ripley, Pine River and
Bethel UnitedChurches.
The consensus of the
meeting was they have a
moral obligation to help
these people in their time
of disaster and inhuman
treatment at the hands of
their fellow countrymen
and also the boat pirates
from Thailand as well as
the storm -tossed waves.
The meeting agreed and
hope to bring a family of
five or six here by5this
fall, Their housing ac-
commodation is already
assured. Those attending
the meeting agreed that
St. Andrew's Church
would be the sponsor with
the others named as co-
sponsors. And those
families . Attending
churches located outside
the area will be cordially
accepted in helping in the
work of bringing the
family into the area and
make them welcome, A
committee was.named to
carry on this effort. It is
as ...follows: chairman,
Mrs. Marion McLean,
treasurer, Mrs. Jewel
Stanley, secretary, Mrs.
Grace Geis of Point Clark
and organizer in charge
of raising funds, Mr.
Vaughn Munro of Pine
River. Mr: Walter Lock
attended the meeting on
behalf of the St. Paul

Anglican congregation.
The secretary, Mrs.
Grace Geis of Point Clark
reports that the com-
mittee has already
received some very
encouraging financial
support. The sponsors are
responsible for the first
year. It is hoped that
offers for suitable em-
ployment will be found as
needed. Anyone can
contribute to the fund and
income tax receipts will
be available. Community
organizations will be
contacted. In this
problem to remedy man's
inhumanity to man it is
felt that this community
will. be tolerant and
generous in its con-
• tributions.
