Visits grandmother in Dungannon

Mrs. Cecil Blake has re-
turned to her home following
a 10 day visit with relatives in
Barrie, Toronto and St. Cath-
. crines.
Dwayne Rivett left for
Newfoundland on Wednes-
day to visit with his mother's
sister and family.
Congratulations to Mr.
and Mrs. James Robe,tson
who were married on Satur-
day with the reception being
in Lucknow ,District Com-
munity Centre. Mrs. Robert-
son is the former Debbie
Maize, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John Maize of Ashfield
Township.
Sunday visitors with Mrs.
Mary Bere were Mrs. Joy
Vella of Seaforth, Mrs, Ian
Hulley of Londesborough,
John Bere, David and Karen
and friend Debbie, all of
London, Maryb,elle and
Dwight Aldham, Johnny and
Lissa of Inglewood, Greg
.Aldham who had been at the
Beres for a few days returned
home and Johnny stayed in
Dungannon for this week.
Company on Tuesday with
Mrs. Olive Blake were Mr.
and Mrs. Stewart Nash of
London. On -Saturday,
daughter Linda and hus-
band, Grant Sowerby of WiI-
lowdale visited, also on Sat-
urday, Olive received a
phone call from Mrs. Fraser
McDonald (Gladys King)
who had called en friends at
Mid -Huron beach. While so
close she decided to call
Olive, then she and her hus-
band and daughter Kathy of
Agincourt visited for an hour
with Olive. Gladys and Olive
had not been in contact with
one another since leaving
Stratford Normal School in
1929.
Mr. and Mrs, Ralph Hill,
Wayne, Rob and Barbara of
London and Mrs. Joyce Beer
of London are visiting for 2
weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Park and family.
ASHTON REUNION
Fifty-eight persons gath-
ered on Sunday at the Bill
Park residence for the 21st
annual Ashton reunion.
In the afternoon, the
sports were under the super-
vision of the Ron Hill family

in Kincardine on Saturday.`

London spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Walter

Cindy White spent last
weekvisiting with Mr. and
Mrs. Jim McNairn and fam-
ily of Seaforth.

and Mrs. David .Black (nee
Jana Keller of Port Town-
send, Washington) who were
married on Friday, July 27th
in Vancouver. David is the
ion of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Black of the 4th concession of
Huron •Township. David is
presently working near Burn-
aby, B.C. .with : the Arch-
eology Department of the
Simon Fraser University.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mc-
Guire entertained a few
friends for a barbeque at
their home on Sunday even-
ing. •
Amy and Jennifer Hamil-
ton of Hanover are spending
a few days visiting with their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond , Hamilton and
Wendy.
Joyce Black visited on the,
weekend with friends in Kit-
chener,
Tasso Karantonis of Tor-
onto spent the °weekend at
his summer home here.
A large crowd attended the
Ripley Craft Festival which
was held in the complex this
past weekend.
Announces more
money :.for loans
Agriculture and Food Min-
ister Bill Newman has an-`"
nounced that an additional $2
million will be added to the
\\tile drainage loan fund,
bringing the total budget for
the fiscal year to $20 million.
The additional $2 million
will be added to the unused
portions—of the allocations
made to municipalities at the
beginning of the year and
will be distributed in Sept-
ember in municipalities
which indCCate they need
additional funds.
In making the announce-
ment, , Mr. Newman said,
"This extra money will en-
able more of our farmers to
take advantage of low-cost
s�-
drainage loans to improve
their productivity."
In the past three years,
more than 320,000 acres
have been tiled, using funds
provided under the tile drain-
age loan program.

Next year's reunion will be
held in Clinton Conservation
Park', the second last Sunday
in June.

Mr. George Cowan, .a layman
who has, been serving at
Climax; Saskatchewan. Some
Dungannonites may, remem-
ber that Mr. Cowan taught
school here some years ago,
went on to be a school super-
intendent, and—being retired
from that profession, is 'now
serving the church as a lay-
man. He is ' coming on
Sunday by arrangementwith
the Pastoral Relations Com-
mittee. A good attendance..
would be ,encouraging.
There are no church serv-
ices on August 12 and 19. On
August 26th Rev. C. G.
Westhaver will preach his
farewell sermon in this
charge as he is going to
Marmora.
The Willing Workers are

Twilite meeting at
Van Osch farm
The annual Huron County
-Holstein Club Twilite meet-
ing was held at the farm of
Antone and •Delores Van
Qsch and family in. Ashfield
on Wednesday evening, July
25.
About 150=attended includ-
ing members, their families
and visitors from neighbour-
ing counties.
The meeting was opened
by' president Bob Vodden,
who welcomed everyone and
introduced Dennis :Martin,
Huron County agricultural
representative who chaired
the evening.
Antone Van Osch outlined
briefly, his farm operation
and cattle history of his dairy
herd.
Mr. Martin introduced
Gordon Bell, fieldman for the
Holstein Fresian Association
for the Southern Counties,
who, using a cow and model;
gave a true type demonstra-
tion of the characteristics to
look for in a good dairy cow.
Following this, two classes of
cattle were judged; a four
year old class and a two year
old class with Jim Needham
of Bruce. County as the
official • judge.
The winners were men,
Glen McNeil and Allan Wy-
lie; ladies, Olga Speiran and
Lana McKague; 4-H mern-
bers, Jan McKague and Earl
Hayden. Winners for gues-
sing the height of the tallest.
cow in the herd (62 inches)
were men, Bob Vodden;
ladies, Vanda McNeil; 4-H,
Perry Van Osch. Winning a
prize for coming the longest
distance was Dave Miles of
•• London. The door prize was
won by 'Murray Donaldson.
The winners and prizes were
presented by Jim McKague.
The prizes were cattle miner-
als, calf starter, cow halter,
teat dip, milk filters, pipeline
cleaner and hard hats. These
were .generous donations of
local dealers.
Mr. Martin introduced the
guest speaker, Mark Booth,
agricultural. representative
for Scotia Bank who spoke on
financing for farmers. Fie
was thanked by Bob Vodden.
Jean Siertsema, Blyth, Hur-
on County hairy Princess
was also present and spoke
briefly on her recent activit-
ies.
Entertainment was provid-
ed by Ron Fleming, Clinton,
who played his guitar and
sang humorous as well as
popular songs. He was
thanked by Bob McNeil.
On behalf of everyone
present, Gordon Bell thank-
ed Antone and Delores for
hosting the meeting to which
Antone gave fitting reply.
The evening ended with
lunch and a social time
enjoyed by all.
