ommittees formed to plan -125th anniversary
The executive and'commit-
tees for Dungannon's 125th
birthday celebrations in 1980
came into being at an enthus-
iastic and •well attended
meeting in the Agriculture
Hall on Tuesday. evening.
Chairlady for the proposed.
three day event will be
Joanne Whitney with Sally
Wright as secretary and
Steve Whitney as treasurer.
Committee heads were nam-
ed to the executive, with Jack
Caesar, chairman of the en-
tertainment, and Isabelle
Eedy, chairlady of the food
committee. The bar commit-
tee is in charge of chairman
Randy Kerr while Delmar
Sproul is chairman of the
grounds committee.
' The registration commit-
tee, which will look after the
mailing of invitations and
registering all visitors during
the event, consists of Mrs.
Helen Dawson, chairladv,
with Mrs. Olive Blake, Mrs.
Marie Park 'and two more to
be picked to act as her
committee.
There • was a surprisingly
large turnout and unanimity
of opinion was to go ahead
with the planned program for
the first centennial ever held
in Dungannon.
The meeting was presided
over by Barry McDonagh of
Lucknow with Marie Park
acting as secretary.
Sandy Andrews of Auburn
was called on for a few
remarks about the Auburn
centennial. 'just. held. John.
Austin', Ashfield councillor
was also present and gave a
few interesting remarks. He
told the. •assembled crowd
'that Ashfield Township was
fully behind the, centennial
and to not be afraid to ask for
any type of assistance.
Invitations to former res-
idents aind friends • will be
gent out ,shortly.. If anyone
has names and addresses`
please .:give them to Mrs.
Marie Park, Mrs. Helen
Dawson or Mrs. Cecil Blake.
Mr. and Mrs: Bert Marsh
of Auburn, Miss Betty Marsh
of Burlington and. Mrs. Edith
Thompson of Brampton visit-
ed with Mr. Mel Jones on
Sunday.
There was a good crowd at,
the auction sale held by
Brindley's auction services
on Saturday, for Mrs. Flossie
Ivers. Flossie is now residing
in Lucknow in the apartment
buildings at the east, end of
the village.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mole
of Lucknow called on Mr. and
Mrs, Ben Mole on Saturday
following the sale .at Mrs.
Ivers.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Boyle and family had as
visitors for a week, Leone's
sister Louise, husband, Jack
Stang and six : sons from
Wilke, Saskatchewan. They
left oiir area for Wawa to
visit with a brother of the two
ladies, Danny Koob, on their
way.'home.
The Dungannon "Beef"
ladies softball team received
their new ball sweaters corn:

Marie Park had .a few'
ladies in on Monday morning
for a coffee party when Mrs,1
Maggie Zacker of Clifford set
up a tupperware display.
The Dungannon A's" girls
softball team held a dance on
,Saturday evening with a
good crowd in attendance.
Gord Riley was the D. J. for
the -event.
The occasion was to wel-
come Mrs. Alan Pentland to
the _ family group, and a
pre -birthday party for Marg-
aret Pentland Pritchard.

SLOPITCH TOURNAMENT
Mark the dates of 3rd, 4th,
and 5th of August on your
calendar as these three days
will be the annual Dungan-
non slopitch tournament.
There will be 16 teams
entered including Wingham
Try Hards, Winthrop and the
teams from the Goderich-
Dungannon Leagues. There
will also be a public address
system on the grounds. Tro-
phies and cash prizes will be
awarded again this year.
The Thursday night soccer
games saw Dungannon de-
feat Lucknow 7 0 in a game 1
checkpoint where some of
the . participants were start-
ing to look pretty • weary
despite the glasses of Kool-
Aid at each checkpoint. The
walkers departed from , the
Agriculture Hall .at. 10.05
o'clock where . Marie Park
was stationed. The first one
to return was Jeslie Living-
ston with a 66 minute time
followed closely by Scott
Westacott and Joey Carmich-
ael. Steve 'Park was the
biggest money raiser with
$114,75 in pledges. The
youngest walker was S -year-
old Brad Park, who complet-
ed 7 kilometers of the 10
kilometer walk.
These young lads and
three,young ladies raised this
money .to pay their way to
Toronto by bus to see a
professional soccer game on
August 1. Congratulations to
each and every one. Mrs,
Debbie Park and Doug West-
acott drove around and pat-
rolled the walkers.
