Resident: recovered from shock of Trudeau's defeat

- Our resident, who has
been ill ever since the
election, says to tell every-
one, that he has recovered
from the shock of Trudeau
losing, and is starting to feel,
much better.
On the first of June the
Dungannon Christian Fel-
lowship Church came to sing
and held a service. The
Roman Catholic residents
had communion on June 6th.
Rev. Wm. Munshaw held
a worship service on June 10,
and Blanche Needham play-
ed the piano and Frank
MacKenzie sang.
Lucknow Christian Re-
formed Ladies carne to Pine -
crest Manor for their month-
ly bingo and a good number
of residents enjoyed it.
On June 14th Riva's World
-from Toronto .came. It is a
mini department store on
wheels and featured gifts,
china, watches and _costume
jewellery for the residents to
buy. Most of the residents
enjoyed looking at the dis-
play and a percentage of the
sales went to activities for
the residents.
June 18 - 24 was Nursing
Home Week and many activ-
ities were planned to cele-
brate it.
On June 19 we took the
van to Benmiller to the
Strawberry Patch. Ed Gil-
more, 'Mary Grant, Aubrey
Higgins, Lloyd Irwin, Marne
Houston., Jean Scott, Gordon
Steele, Wm. Steer and Jim
Smith were the passengers.
Mrs. H. Stonehouse, who
lives across the road from the
nursing home went with us.
While Jean Scott, Aubrey
Higgins and I picked enough
strawberries to have for a
treat, Mrs. Stonehouse stay-
ed with the others under the
shade tree. Jim Smith enter-
tained those in the van by
reciting some of his poetry.
He remembers such long
poems for someone who is 94
years old.
It only took the three of us,
15 or 20 minutes, and we
were, ready `to leave;. Every-
one. shared our pickings in
the van.
The Pentecostal Church of
Kinlough held their monthly
service here on June 21st.
They sang our favourite
hymns and Jill Vandriel
delivered a message from the
Bible.
On June 22nd we held a
musical program. Blanche
Needham played some beau-
tiful music on the piano and
Jean Conley accompanied
her the banjo. Most of the
residents couldn't keep their
toes from tapping. Dorothy
Wardell of Riplejplayed her
violin for us for 15. minutes
and Blanche ended with
some more beautiful piano
music.
Margaret MacDonald,
Gertrude Leddy and Mary
Hogan came` to the Nursing
Home on Saturday, June 23
and played cards with some
of the residents.
The Christian Reformed
Church of Lucknow held their
monthly worship service on
June 24.
Ripley Wornen's Institute
came on June 26 to entertain
at our .birthday party. Violin
music, duets, a , sing song
and a group of ladies singing,
were enjoyed by all the
residents,

ton, June 10; Gertie Foster,
June 14; Jean " Christopher,
June 18 and Harold (Tiny)
Edwards, June 29th.

of near Teeswater have two
cousins from the west' visit-
ing with them this past week.
They are the daughters of the
late Mrs. Minnie (McInnes)

Kathy and Ken ' went to
Milton on Sunday to visit
with Doug and Cathy Me -
whiney and their new
daughter, who was born
June 29. Marie Mewhinney
and: Mike McAuley of St.
Catharines visited. with Mrs.
Doris Mewhinney for a
couple ..of days.
St. Helens WI
The " `Family and Consum-
er Affairs" meeting of . St.
Helens Women's Institute
washeld in the W.I. hall on
July 5 with 14 ladies and two
children attending.
The guest speaker Miss
Cathy Pride from Family and
Children Services of Goder-
ich, spoke on child abuse and
also showed a film. She said
there is: more child abuse in
Huron County than we are
aware of and if we hear of
any ause in our community it
is our- duty to inform the
officer in Goderich where
some one is on duty at all
times to take the call. They
are planning to take children
in - their care camping and
volunteers are needed for
this work in the form of tran-
sportation. '
Lorne and Linda Emmer-
ton were also present and
showed some interesting
macrame.
Mrs. -Ernest Gaunt gave
her report of the Officers
Conference which she had
attended. Mrs. Cooper re-
ported for the Bus Trip
committee and a trip is
,canned to Erland Lee Home,
e Veldhuis Greenhouses
and to Stone Road Mall for
shopping.
- Current Events were given
by Mrs. Mewhinney.
A lovely lunch was served
by the hostesses, Mrs. Frank
McQuillin, Mrs. Ernest
Gaunt and Mrs. Ross Gam-
mie.
McKee. Mrs. McKee when a
youngster lived hereat Lang -
side with her family. Bill's
cousins are visiting relatives
around these parts and came
out to see the home and farm
their mother lived on. The.
farm is on the Langside road
and is now owned by Jim
Young and Bob and George
Young own the log cabin
summer home there. They
also visited their uncle John
and his wife, Jennie who is a
patient in Wingham. Hospit-
al. Mr. and Mrs. John McIn-
nes Jr. and family are spend-
ing this month visiting in.
England. Some of the older
Langside : residents will rem-
ember some of the members
of the McInnes family.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Pin-
nell of Mildmay visied with
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Young
on Friday evening.
We are sorry: to report that
Mrs. Graham .. Moffat of the
nursing home in 'Goderich is
a patient in Stratford Hos-
pital after breaking -her leg in
a fall. She is :doing as well as
can be expected.
Peter Moffat of Kincar-
dine, who formerly lived on
the eighth of Culross, is
presently a patient in Kincar-
dine Hospital..
Kim: Coughlin spent a few
days last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Clifford Young.
Mr. and Mrs: Don Wall,
Krista and Karah visited
Friday evening with her
sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jim -
Young and family.

Rains this weekend
brought welcome relief from
the dry spell although it
brought haying to a stand
still and maybe stopped
some plans for the holiday
weekend.
Mrs. Ron George's sisters
from Strathroy spent last
Monday visiting with her.
Their, mother is presently
holidaying in Winnipeg.
We are sorry to report that
Wesley Young . of Lucknow,
formerly of Langside, is a
patient in Victoria Hospital,
London. He had Surgery last
Wednesday and is coming
along very well. He hopes to
return home sometiihe this
week.

Springer spent last Wednes-
day in Thamesville and visit-
ed at the home of Peter
Driscol.
Russell Young and Debbie
Ferguson spent the holiday
weekend at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford Young,
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Evans
visited with Margaret Moffat
in Teeswater and with her
uncle, Graham Moffat who
is a patient in Wingham
Hospital. They also visited
her mother, . • Mrs. Mamie
Donaldson at the nursing
home in Walkerton and
Eric's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Evans of Whitechurch.

Regular service was held
in the Presbyterian Church,
Whitechurch on Sunday with
the new minister,. Rev. John
•Bell in charge. Congregation
of the United Chyrch are also
attending the Presbyterian.

taining Annie Pote, an ex-
change student from Quebec
for two weeks. Joanne is then
going home to Quebec with
Annie to spend twoweeks
there: .
Christine Bregman is at-
tending summer school. in St.
Thomas this week where she
is taking, an advanced course
in ballet.
Mr. and Mrs. Len Cough-
lin and family . entertained
guests from Hamilton on the
weekend.
