Ball'. • Mr. Wray Thompson was home for' the.. weekend. He entertained his classmates from, Fanshawe College at a barbecue ' • Friday • evening. Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Thompson 'were Mr. •and Mrs. Bob •Thompson and family. Mrs. Jack Farrell, Miss Cathy Farrell, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Farrell spent the weekend in Ottawa attending a wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Ben'Scott and Mr-. and Mrs. Morley 11 Scott spent an enjoyable Sunday as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Watke and family, Carlsruhe. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Collins attended a family gathering in honour of Maureen's Cousin Mrs.. Pam Jaunkalns ' of London, England. The Collins' visited in Kincardine on Sunday • •afternoon With Mr. and Mrs. Harry Graham. • , Mr. and •Mrs. Don ' Robertson attended a retirement tea •on Thursday in honour of Mrs Wm. Hewett, Elmira. While in Elmira, they 'also called' on Miss Iola Terry. Bak from a six week's tour of Europe are. Margie and • Dave Lochhead, Burton and Catherine Collins met them at the airport on Saturday. The Lothheads spent Sunday with the Collins.. Purple Grove Women's Institute had a most, interesting meeting on Wednesday evening. Guest, Mrs. Barry Wylds, took. members on a • journey to Ireland. We learned many of the customs of that land. Everyone was ready to take off for the Emerald Isle the nfixt day! An uLsual lunch was served, consisting of barbecued pigs tails, baked beans salads and squares. The 'Members' husbands were guests at this meeting. We will meet in July at the Centre. Ripley Unroll Central • Kindergarten class goes on Safari • On Thursday, May 31, 1979,. the Kindergarten clas- ses went on a bus trip to the African Lion Safari in Rock - ton. The weather was beauti- ful and everyone enjoyed seeing the wild animals. The monkeys were not as lively as usual, hdwever, one did .sit on the bus hood and guide us through monkey land. • Once again the giraffes were the favourite as they stuck their heads in the bus windows and everyone got to feel their noses." An exciting hour was spent in the pet corner, especially when 'the goat ate Mark MacLeod's envelope with his 52.00 in it. To complete our happy day, we did some souvenir 'shopping, had some refresh - dents and headed for home. HOT DOGS There will be no more hot dog sales. The Special Edu- cation Class made 5195.00. The money will cover the cost for the bus and admission at the Royal. Ontario Museum and the McLaughlin Planet- arium. They will be leaving for Toronto on June 15th. We all hope they will enjoy their trip., J EXAMS • • Exams have started for Grades 4 to 6. • FIELD DAY. Friday,. June 8th, was •.Field Day. Grades 3, 4, 5,. and 6 walked up to the Ripley District School to join the 7's and 8's. 'The events were held at the District School.. • The ribbons were donated by the Royal Bank. of Canada and presented by several • employees 'of the Ripley •Branch of the Royal Bank., Many thanks for the time and ' efforts putforth,by the Band. • The Junior Soys>Witiner was Bruce Summer with 16 • points. Intermediate boys winners were Randy Collins and Johnny Forster each with 15 points. The Senior boys winner was "Steve Ball • with a perfect scare of 20. In the Junior girls, Tracy Thor- niproft and Jill Denstecir tied , with 16 points each. In the Intermediate girls, Trudy Korten won with 18 points. • h1" the Senior division, • Debbie Roberts Won with ,f8 points. All the people with a first or second go to Kincar- dine.' BICYCLE RODEO . The Bicycle Rodeo was held on June' 6th by Greg King of the Ontario Provin- cial Police. The winners, are as follows: Piimary Division, Jason Piel, Blair Scott, Suz- anne Bell; Intermediate Div- ision, Tim Scott, Doug Har- ris, Ross Farrell; Senior Div- ision, Alex MacDonald, San- dra Hanry, Bobby Cameron. ROSS FARRELL GRADE ONE. FIELD TRIP On Tuesday, May 29th, the Grade one class with their teacher, Mrs. E. Mac- Donald, went on a Field. Trip to Kincardine. They visited the Kincardine Police Station and. Fireball where they found out about many inter- esting things. A short trip to the harbour to see the sail- boats`and the lighthouse was somewhat dampened by the rain, but under shelter at the Park we enjoyed our picnic lunch. Then on to the Hospit- al where we were escortedon an -extensive tout the facilities and to top off , our day, everyone enjoyed cook- ies and a- cold' drink in the hospital. Time' was running out and we were .unable to • visit with the-O.P.P. but -they very graciously came down the next day to our school, with the cruiser and motor- cycle and presented us with •the 0:P.P. package 9f "Facts • we should Know".
