HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1979-05-23, Page 11• Ordain minister at Whitechurch By VALETTA EMERSON AT the 8 o'clock service May 20 at Chalmers Pres- byterian Church the service of Ordination was held for Harvey -William Osborne B.A. M.Div. by the Presby- tery of Bruce Maitland of the Presbyterian Church in Can- ada. Rev. Robert Armstrong D.D. gave the sermon, The name which is above every name, and the choir sang the anthem, Teach Me To Pray. The charge of the newly ordained minister was given by Rev. Hugh L. Nugent. The robing of the Ordinand was done by Rev. Alien Hobbs and the benediction was pronounced by Rev. Harvey Osborne. Relatives present at the Ordination of Harvey Os- borne were ' Mr. and Mrs, Phill Hobbs, Julie and Steph- anie of Sudbury; Rev. and Mrs. Allen Hobbs;, Miss Ruth Hobbs; Mr. and Mrs. Hood, Karen and Kristen, all of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Osborne, Peter, Terry, and Janice of Markdale, his grandmother, Mrs. Sam Os- borne of Chatsworth; Mr. and Mrs. Ernie.. Wilson, Ow- en Sound and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Shier of Markdale. • Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Emerson, Sharon, Brenda and Darlene of St. Cathar- ines spent the holiday week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson and at their farm home. On Sunday .Harvey Os- borne preached his farewell sermon at the morning ser- vice at Chalmers Presbyter- ian eharch. After the morning service on Sunday, the congregation of . Chalmers Church pres, ented Mrs, Harvey Osborne with a battery clock and Mr: Osborne with a brief case. The address was read by Walter Elliott and gifts were presented by. Bill Versteeg. Though, taken by surprise, Mr. and Mrs. Osborne and family thanked all for their gifts. Paul Falconer of Sarnia spent the weekend with his, grandmother, Mrs: " Cassie Mowbray. Mrs. Eileen Parker and granddaughter, Jennie, Park- er of Exeter spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan. Mr. and Mrs. Ted McClen- aghan " spent. the weekend with Miss Mildred McClen- aghan. • Mr. and Mrs. Bill McBur- ney of Toronto spent the holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin and with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson. 25TH ANNIVERSARY A surprise 25th wedding anniversary was held.for Mr. and Mrs. Don Gillespie Sun- day evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bushell where around 35 friends gathered. From here were Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Durnin, Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw and Mrs. Agnes Farrier. Mrs. Fred Davis and Dana of LaSalle spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Agnes Farrier. Visiting on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott and family were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laidlaw and Michelle and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Elliott and Jeffery of Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Duch- arme of Goderich were Sun- day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw. Attending the Women's Institute District Annual May 15 at Kincardine from White- church Branch were Miss Merle Wilson, Mrs. John. ston .Conn, -Mrs. Tom Met- calfe, Mrs. Agnes Farrier and 'Mrs. Victor Emerson. All accompanied Mrs. Gor- don Wall, District Secretary - Treasurer. Mr's. Harvey Osborne and Mrs. Simon de Boer spent Friday in Kitchener. Anniversary services will be held on Sunday, May 27th with guest speaker, Rev. R.T.A, Marshall of Strath- roy. Services are at 11 a.m.' and 8 p.m. Harvey Osborne spent Thursday in Toronto. WHITECHURCH W.M.S. Chalmers W.M.S. meeting was held on Wednesday, May 16 at the home of Mrs. Bill Rintoul with an attend- ance of 14. Mrs. Elroy Laid- law and Mrs. Walter Elliott prepared the .meeting. Mrs. Laidlaw gave the call to worship. Mrs. Bill Rintoul led in prayer. Mrs. Laidlaw gave a talk on. God's . Goodness. Mit. Elliott:, readthe. scripture. Mrs. Laidlaw chose as her topic, Mothers, and shetold of John the Baptist s mother, Elizabeth. She was a cousin of "Mary the mother of Jesus. A • Mother's Prayer was read by Mrs. Bill Purdon. The offering was received and dedicated by Miss Annie Laidlaw. The roll call was called by the secretary, Mrs. Purdon and answered by naming a mother in the Bible. The president, Mrs. Don Ross, presided for the busi- ness. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. Wm. Purdon. Mrs. John de Boer 'pres- ented Mrs. Osborne with a gift (cup and saucer) prior to her leaving for Thompson, Manitoba. LADIES AID MEET The Ladies Aid meeting was held following the WMS meeting. The collection was received. A committee was appointed to choose carpet for the manse.
