Respect. for
Life week
The Wingham Town Coun-
cil has declared the week of
May 6 - 13, Respect for Life
Week, inconjunction with
the United Nations delcara-
tion of 1979 as The Interna-
tional Year of the Child.
The Wingham Pro-life
group supported the coun
y cil's declaration , at their
meeting on May 2 in the.
Wingham Bible Chapel.
The group discussed such
questions as Respect for
Life?, When do we begin to
respect a child?, and When.
does life _begin? Many town
councils realize .children are
especially vulnerable to ab-
use. -The greatest abuse . is
suffered by the unborn as
many are murdered, • sanc-
tioned by Canadian law. The
group considered the rights
of the child: a right to be
born, to have food health
care, nutrition, emotional
security.
The Wingham group en-
dorses the pledge by many
countries to provide these
rights to children. It is \the
aimof the group to focus
attention on the state of .the
child during the Year of the
Child to improve. the lot of
children.
Members were reminded
of an address, Hopeful. En-
counters with Death and
Dying in. the Life of Chil ren,
to be presented in Loddon
this month by world renown-
ed expert on death, Dr.
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross. Con-
nie Osborn and Sally • Cam-
peau will present a program,
Where have all the children
gone?, on Wingham Cable
T,V.
A new executive was elect-
ed: Officers are president,
Sally . Campeau; first vice-
president, Betty O'Donnell;
secretary, Joan Van Den As -
sem; treasurer, Richard
Campeau; Education chair-
man, Sally Campeau; co-edu-
cation chairman, Colleen
Schenk; membership chair-
- man, Janet Sterenberg; pub-
licity, Flora Nabrotsky and
Monica Jolie; telephone com-
mittee,; -Susan Wright.
Joan Hamilton and Patty
Barger passed the. Foxtrot
which completes their Senior
Bronze Dances. All of these
skaters now advance to their
Junior Silver Dances.
John Barger also passed.
his Junior Bronze Free Style.
Congratulations to these
skaters and their profession-
al coaches who have worked
hard at this Spring School.
Debbie Jeffry, Olive Lapp
and Rick Pettit have coached
these skaters at the Vanastra
