Third in Quebec speech contest

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clare
and Mary Louanne drove to
Noranda Rouyn, Quebec on
Friday where Mary Louanne
took part in the Lions Club
Multiple District A Public
Speaking Contest. Mary Lou-
.antie represented the . A-9
District Lions Club. There,
were 60 speakers taking part
from Ontario, Quebec, Lab-
rador and Newfoundland.
Registration was Friday
night and the speaking took
place on Saturday with a
banquet at 4 o'clock. Mary'
Louanne placed in the top 3.
The final s ea -off was after
k
the banquet. Mary,, Louanne
placed 3 in this with a
difference of only 1 mark
between the 3. The topic of
her speech was "Driving'.
Congratulations to Mary
Louanne for, bringing this
honour back to Kingsbridge.
Eddie Chilton of Moos -
once, who is now attending
the University of Guelph for
a course in Public Utilities,
visited Mrs. Clarice Dalton
and family. Other visitors at
the Dalton . home were Mr.
and Mrs. Bruce Pritchard of
Mississauga and Harvey Las -
saline of God,erich.
Anita Hogan of London
spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs., John
Howard.
The community enjoyed a
very worthwhile evening rec-
ently when "the Knights of
Jazz" band from Kincardine
and District High School
entertained at St. Joseph's
Community School. The aud-
ience showed much enthusi-
asm for this talented group of
young people. The students
from_... St. Joseph's. School
filled" in with some very good
chorus singing. The five

West for a' two week vaca-
tion. They left Sunday and
willvisit their son, Mike, in
Calgary.

o'clock Mass at St, Joseph's
Church, Mrs. Robert How-
ard, president of St. Joseph's
C.W.L. presented a teacher
and a pupil representative
from each room with a
wooden crucifix on behalf of
the C.W.L. members.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Dennis Dalton on" Sunday
were Mr. and Mrs. Mauri ce
Dalton and family of Port
Elgin vicinity, Mr. and Mrs,
Brian Dalton and family of
Palmerston, Mr. and Mrs.
Arnold Marsman and family
of London. The occasion was
Dennis Dalton's birthday.

On Tuesday, May 1st, the
Knights of Jazz band from
Kincardine High School per-
formed along., with the .choirs
who sang at the Kiwanis
Festival in Stratford. The
Stapleton sisters sang sever-
al numbers along with a duet
by Lisa Frayne and Heather-
Ann Stapleton. The Knights
of Jazz band was terrific and.
the singing was appreciated.
Several Children from
Grades 3 and 4 are making
models of pioneer farms for
Auburn's 125th birthday cel-
ebration. \ -
Choirs from Grades Kind-
ergarten to Grade 6 went to
Stratford to participate in the
Kiwanis Music Festival.
Parents of. the Grade 2
children attended a meeting
on Holy Communion. Relig-
ious consultant, Mary Ken-
nedy directed the parents in
an at -hone program to help
the children prepare for the
sacrament.
The winners of the French
Public Speaking were; Grade
6, 1st, Christine Stepleton;
2nd, Billy Card; 3rd, Ken
Van Osch. Grade 7,.. 1st,
Shawn .Doherty' 2rid, John
Lalonde; 3rd, Vicki Delber-
gue. Grade 8, lst, Marian
Knoop; 2nd, Teresa Van
Rooy; 3rd, . Heather Ann
Stapleton.
Moira Cooper, N.D.P. can-
didate for Huron -Bruce came
to our. , school on Monday,
April 30th to speak to the
Grades 5 - 8. She gave a
speech and then several
questions were asked by the
students:
Mrs. Maithel Wilson is
coming into the school to
speak to the Grades 5 and 6
on what the job of an
enumerator is.
May lith is a P.A. day.
Basketball finals are being
played. Houseleague chess
has started.
