Outside there was a roaring blizzard and everyone was glad to have shelter. Winds at 60 miles per hour whipped the heavy fall of snowflakes into a com- plete "white out" at times making zero visibility. All cars and trucks were off the roads and no one was walking the main street or any other street for that matter. Fortunately for the folks in Ripley itself the hydro lines stayed up and power was on. Schools were closed in Western Ontario. In Ripley it was impossible for foreman Donnie Peterbaugh to make his regular weekly garbage pick-up and nobody even tried putting the bags by the curb for they sure would have been gone in a hurry.
