We could be heard shouting and arguing and cheering until dark. And it goes without saying that we made rules to fit the occasions as they arose. The game was known officially as Scrub when - played at school. There is always plenty of spring work on the farm but in those days it was done the hard way, - following a -team of horses up andslown the furrows or after harrows or other implements. Of course, there was no deafening noise of tractors.- just the happy singing of the • spring birds. And .no , choking fumes from the machines just pure fresh air. Springtime was gardening time too. The small garden near the louse was • ploughed and prepared as early as possible and the hardy • vegetables • planted in 'beds'. Does anyone else remember the beds in the garden? We had a cold frame where we planted tomato, cabbage, cauliflower and other more tender things and they were• • transplanted at the proper time. The cold frame was really just a long box frame with good earth in the bottom and a couple of storm windows over the top to trap the heat of the sun. On very warm days the top was lifted but closed • down while there was some heat there. Yes, Spring was a busy time and a happy time and a dine of release from • the many hardships of winter. It was a time when there were the many beauties of nature to enjoy, and to remember now .when so many of them have disappeared. •-• The Country Mouse. /-;"5.,olgroonw-Apoop7.,A0,7, *1•W'r to, ••', • '''•• " • • .•••:,,/-, , 1 " • FARIVIPLAN EQUIPMENT LOANS • MAKE FARM PRODUCTION SENSE • Up to 100% financing. • Available for new or used equipment. • • Repayment scheduled to suit your cash flow. • Can be used to re -finance existing loans or finance contracts.
