The March meeting of the
Lucknow ' W.I. was• , held
March 13 with the president.,
Mrs. Mary MacGillivray, in
charge. Following the Insti-
tute grace dessert was serv-
ed by the commitee in
charge.
Mrs. Winnifred Gammie,
secretary,,, read the minutes
of the February meeting and
the thank you cards received.
Nineteen members and one
visitor answered the roll call
by suggesting something
needed in the institute.
A minutes silence was
observed in memory of Miss
Lena Robinson.

Olive Kennedy was appoint-
ed to assist in auditing the
books for this year. ,
Mrs., Susan McNaughton,
using the St. Patrick theme
opened the program with an
Irish poem. Irish songs were
sung with Mrs: Isabel Ritchie
at the piano.
Mrs. Greta Rice prepared
a very interesting and infor-
mative paper on Ireland and
its people. It was read by
Mrs. 'McNaughton in the
absence of Mrs. Rice, Mrs'.
Ida Barger read a humorous
poem, "I Envy .McGinty".
Mrs. Grace Campbell told
some original stories, depict-
ing the tragic events that
could happen when Institute
members go on a bus tour.
This was followed by the
adventures of Pat and Mike
in their troubled Homeland
of Ireland.
The motto, "What is our
generation leaving . behind
for the future?.'.', was given
by Mrs. Susan. McNaughton,
stressing the importance of
leaving something of oursel-
ves, peace in the future and a
better world for our children.

Canadian industries meeting
The Kinloss - Kairshea
Women's Institute held their
Agriculture and Canadian
Industries meeting on Thurs-
day, March 15 at 1.30 p.m.,
at the home of Mrs. Frank
MacKenzie. Mrs.. Evan
Keith, president, opened the
meeting with .a poem on
Spring.. Mrs, Harry Lavis
read a different version of
the 23rd Psalm. •
The secretary -treasurer,
Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall read
the minutes and correspond-
ence. Mrs. Cliff Roulston
reported that therewas very

book. ,A motion was passed
that Kairshea would not at

Clarke on the hospital meet-
ing, re

beds held in Wingham.
March 13. Mrs. Keith passed
out papers with. Hon. Dennis
Timbrell's address to all the
members that they might
write • letters telling .why, they
favoured keeping the hospit-
al beds open.
Mrs.. Bill Haldenby con-
ducted a contest, making "'an,
animal from a newspaper.
Mrs. Bob Gilchrist intro-
duced the guest speaker.,
Mrs. Alma Armstrong, local
veterinarian, who spoke on,
"A day in the life of a.
veterinarian". After.a very
interesting and informative
talk, she was thanked and
presented with a gift, by
Mrs.. Bill Haldenby.
Mrs. Bill Haldenby then
conducted'another contest on
the Shamrock.
• The roll call, • "Compose a
commercial to sell your fav-
ourite product and bring it to
sell showed up many talent-
ed poets. An auction sale of
the articles was . held with
.Mrs. Ted ,Collyer as auction-
eer.
Mrs.•Ted Collyer gave the
courtesy remarks. Lunch was
served by the directors, Mrs.
Jim Burt and Mrs. Lloyd=
MacDougall and hostess,
Mrs. Frank MacKenzie.
Pine River UG'Wdiscuss
Year of the Gild
Pine River U.C.W. met in
the church on Tuesday,
March 13.
Mrs. Duncan Thorburn
opened the meeting, with a
poem. Mrs. Bob Rutledge,
acting secretary, read the.,
minutes. Twelve members
answered the roll call . on
"What can you do for the
International. Year. of the
Child?'. Scripture verses
were read by Mrs. Perrin
Lowry, followed by a medita-
tion.
An informative reading
about. the International Year
of the Child was given by
Mrs. Bob Courtney. Mrs.
Lowry closed with prayer.
Mrs. Wayne Lowry read a
letter and played a tape
explaining the concerns of
. Amisty International.
The Community Auction
planned for May 26 was
further discussed. The new.
overhead • projector was
shown, which ` is .helpful in
music and bible study.
A dainty St. Patrick's
lunch was' served' by Mrs.
• Jack .Campbell, Mrs. Jim
Farrell Jr. and
Rutledge.
