Some of those, in hospital at present as reported, include Clarence Wylds, Mrs. Gladys Nicholson, Mrs. Nora Fredericksen, Murray McDonald, and Miss Gertrude Kidney all •of Ripley. BY AB WYLDS Mrs. Belle Henry resident of Huron Villa in Ripley is grateful to all her relatives, friends, and neighbours for the fine party held on Thurs.; Mar, 1, in honour of her 97th birthday. Belle had 80 people call to express their good'wishes and she received 70 cards. Her son Donnie was home from Toronto for the occasion. Sheila MacDonald and Isabel Brooks, with the assistance of several others from time to time, served the luncheon during the afternoon and evening. Mrs. Dianne (Ron) Brooks of the Paramount area of Huron township, Highway 88 was the lucky winner of the .quilt raffled by the Ripley Skating Club. She is the „former Dianne Schultz who skipped the Ripley ladies Curling team which did so, well in competitions until they reached the Peterborough finals. This nice quilt was made and donated by Mrs. Judy van Kooten who operates the yarn and novelty shop, in the. old Royal Bank on Ripley's main corner. The shop is called the Lynne's Textile and • Hobby Store. The Ripley Night • School classes, which have been held each Thursday evening in" the high school since last fall, held their AnnUal Open House last Thursday evening Mar. 8. The display of work and the 'program 'were held in the high school gymnasium. Members of the different • classes brought their • exhibits and set up the displays along the, walls of the auditorium in the lite afternoon following the day schdol classes. Supervising the safety of these displays during the supper hour were MrS. Minnie Lock of Ripley and Miss,Marie Inkster of Kincardine, both members of the ceramics and china painting class. Mr. John Phelan of Toronto spent a few days visiting Mr. and 'Mrs., Orden Richard, Rubert and Ronald. More Ripley area people are going for the school winter break coming up this week end. Among the college students home last weekend. were Joyce Black of Conestoga College and Dianne MacKay from the University of Guelph. Last Saturday evening Dick McCosh phoned. his parents Don and Anne McCosh from Athens, Texas. Dick ac- companied by his friend Mac McInnes are motoring in the States. They spent a week with Dick and Nancy Stanley who are spending the winter on the Florida Keys„ Dick and Mac are going to California and eventually they will visit Dick's sister Mary Anne,husband and family Mr. and Mrs. Kukoly in Kitimat, British Columbia before motoring home. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Shiells held a birthday dinner last Thursday for Mrs. Gladys Arnold. • Neighbours in the west end • of the village at- tended and had a good time helping Gladys celebrate her 74th. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lohnes entertained Mr. and Mrs.William Green, and Mr. and Mrs. Selby Williams of Burford this past weekend. The ladies, Myrtle and Margaret,are the 'daughters.of Mrs. Lohnes. Rip -ley folks are sorry to learn that Mrs. Ethel White of Huron. - Villa recently fell and broke her arm. Mr. and Mrs. Victor- Gawley of Ripley visited with their daughter, husbandand family - Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne.Greig in Elmira. Mrs. Isobel Brooks and Mrs. Olive Needham accompanied Wanda and Vic to Elmira and visited with Mr. and. Mrs. Peter Leeson. On Wednesd6r, March 14th the Students' Council is sponsoring skating for all students at the Lucknow arena. �n March 16th the Students' Council has ob- tained a film for the students called "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken".
