On Monday, February °26, the Mahood Lumber team from Kincardine was in town for a game of gild cleaii hockey. Lucknow opened fhe scor- ing in the first period when Rick Beckard scored from Todd Park and Donnie Mc- Farlan. Late in the game Dean. Morrow tied the game for' Mahood and the game ended in a 1 1 draw. On February 27 the team travelledto Paisley to re- sume playoff action. Paisley jumped into a 2 - 0 lead before the Atoms got on track. However they did come alive in the. second period and led by team cap- tain Brad Priestap tied the game 2 -2 before -the _break. Five minutes into the third period, Lucknow scored the go ahead goal and it looked as if the team might hold out for a victory, but Paisley managed a goal with two Minutes left in the game: Score sheet for Lucknow read :Chris IrWin, assisted by Brad Priestap; Brad Priestap, un- assisted and Chris. Irwin .,„aSsisted by and, Dickson arid 'Danny Gilchrist. • 'That left the series tied 1 - 1 with goals for and against tied at 9. This set the ; stage for game four on March2. TAKE LEAD IN 'SERiES • The home team promited the -coach a4goocl game for the hometown fans and kept their word. They skated hard and -played their own style for the whole game, • Forwards coming back helped the defensive crew led by Todd Scharlach, and Richard MacDonald. . Jeff Gibson recorded a shutout. On offense,. CBC scored three with Chris Irwin having a three point night. The score sheet read, Brad Priestap from Chris Irwin, and Chris Collyer; Chris Ir- win from Brad Priestap and Chris Collyer from .Chris Irwin. On Wednesday, March 7, the Tiverton red ' machine was in town for a game. Although the Atonis were out-naanned 2 to 1 they managed to outscore the visitors by the same margin. Rick Beckard opened the scoring for Lucknow on a good three-way play from Steve Murray and Donnie McFarlan. Tiverton tied. the score with a break -away goal in the third but Donnie McFarlan scored the game winner with assists going to Tim Becker and Rick Beck- ard. WIN CHAMPIONSHIP • Oii Thursday, March 8, the team headed for Paisley and the "DD" championship. Although the team got off to a shaky start and the Paisley boys were Up for the game, Lucknow got the first goal ',on a steal and kbreak by Chris Irwin. paisley- tied the score and' both teams played a scoreless second ' • • • \ period. Five minutes into the third Rick Beckard made it 2 - 1 when he followed through and picked up a rebound on Danny Gilchrist's shot. The lead held until 4.59 when a battling Paisley team again tied tip game. Brad Priestap scored the winner just 59 seconds later when his constant back checking produced the puck at centre ice. He was able, with fine skating and puck control to find the top corner to cap •a great play. Late -1-n the game the Paisley team pulled their goalie and were able te apply some pressure, •however, the boys solved the t pressure problems at the 57 second mark when Chris Irwin scor- ed from Danny Gilchrist. , Team captain Bradley Priestap,. assistants Richard MacDonald and John. D. MacKenzie -received the tro- phy' as W.O.A.A. "DD" Champions. Each boy took his turn at the mike, thank- ing the Paisley ?boys for a good series And to all those making the championship possible. On' Saturday, Marcli 10th the.lads were off to Tiverton for a- rematch. AlthOiigh the boys.grabbed a 2 - 0 lead, the Tiverton team came back . with four straight goals to win the game 4 - 2. • Scoring for Lucknow were. • Donnie.
