Mrs. Francis Gemmell
reported on the plans
being made for the 75th
Anniversary of the Ripley
Womens Institute at
Ripley United Church
when a luncheon will be
held on May 30 with Her
Honor Pauline McGib-
bon, Lieut. Governor of
Ontario, as guest
speaker. More in-
formation will be an-
nounced later.
The Ripley WI will
'collect for the cancer
society in April. Mrs.
Margaret Blue andMMrs.
Walter Lock attended the
hospital auxiliary
meeting and Mrs. Blue
reported _ the group is
asked to collect the
computer labels off
packages for the
auxiliary, as it has
collected sales slips.
Ripley WI will join the.
Auxiliary as an associate
member.
Many WI members
enjoyed the course on
"Common sense
nutrition" held at the
Complex, with the Home
Economist Barb De
Visscher. The course on
Preservation of fruits and
vegetables will be on
June 14. Members were
reminded of the Poster
Competition on The
Rights of a Child" poster.
More information may be
received from Mrs. Lock,
or Secretary Christene
Robertson.
Mrs. Frank Fair
commented on citizen-
ship and world affairs
saying the dollar is only
worth 8014 cents, a 'year
ago it was 90 cents.
The next meeting is the

St. Helens W. I. consider farmers' plight
The March meeting of St.
Helens W.I. was held in the
hall on March 1st.
The president, Mrs. -Muri-
el Curran welcomed every-
one.
The minutes of the Feb-
ruary meeting were read.
Mrs. James Aitchison and
Mrs. Keith Tyler gave the
financial and assistant sec-
retary reports.
-Mrs. Gordon MacPherson
is to attend the Officers' Con-
ference in Waterloo in May.
The Institute will entertain
at Pinecrest Manor on March
15th. Hope all members will
attend.
There will be a Needle-
point Short Course in the hall
on Thursday, March 8th.
The executive meeting to
plan the District Annual will
be held in Dungannon on
April 2nd.
The Branch Directors,
Mrs. Allan Cranston, Mrs.
Michael Naylor and Mrs.
Frank Mewhinney will be the
nominating . committee for
the annual meeting on April
5th.
Mrs. Ernest Gaunt took
the chair for ,the program.
Mrs. Ivan Clark gave a
reading.
Mrs. Ross Errington gave
the topic on "The Day in the
Life of a Country Vet" and
"The Farmers Plight".
Miss Isobel Miller gave
the current events.

Day of Prayer meeting. Mrs.
;,Richard West opened the
meeting by introducing the
service Spiritual Growth.
Mrs. Gordon Finlayson and
Mrs. Donald Simpson helped
with the service.
Mrs. Ewan MacLean and
Mrs. Warren Wylds prepar-
ed a question and answer
period for the conversation
part of the service. Mrs.
Richard West gave the offer-
tory prayer and the closing
prayer. -
Mrs. Gordon Finlayson
had the business part of the
meeeting.

Area C.G.I.T. leaders from
Teeswater, Seaforth, Listow-
el, Pine. River, Ripley, Wing
ham and Lucknow had a day
of fellowship at 'Lucknow
United Church on Saturday;
Jane Rumble from Blenheim
led the program for the day.
She opened with worship
on "Doors". The leaders had
a' personal sharing time and
then discussed many prob-
lems of the rural. leader.,
Some new songs were learn-
ed. After lynch, provided by
several area leaders, Jane
showed many Bible Study
and Worship techniques and
resources.
A fellowship for area lead-
ers \was organized with plans
for au meeting at Knox
Presbyterian Church, Listow-
el on April 17.
Local .lady
is honored
Mrs. George Whitby en-
tertained the neighbours at
her home on- Willoughby
Street in honour of Mrs.
Harry Nixon's 85th birthday.
A lovely plant was presented
to Mrs. Nixon, also a beauti-
ful decorated cake made by
Mrs. Whitby.
After singing happy birth-
day Mrs. Nixon thanked' the
ladiesand' ai'ver5 epjoyable
social haur was .spent togeth-
er.
Mrs Nixon has lived near-
ly all her, married life on
Willoughby Street in the
same house and is the sole
remaining resident of the
original neighbours.
