Well on • Thursday of
last week the month of
March came in like a
crow here at Ripley-
believe
ipleybelieve it or not. A dull
mild overcast morning,
there were these two
crows flying around in
the •north. end of the
village CAWING loudily
and since there were no
lions or lambs in sight
hence the writer arrived
at the above conclusion.
And it should go out like a
robin.
The night of Mar. 1, last
Thursday, cooled the air
resulting in a heavy pea
soup fog. Despite these
conditions George
McLean ' and Roddy•
MacDonald of Ripley
motored to Port Elgin
and back..; They were
attending the Bruce:
County. Mutual Fire Aid
meeting held in the
Complex there. They
represented the Ripley
Firefighters.., ..These
meetings are held 'on
first. Thursday evening
each month. The next one
is in Mildmay On Apr: 5.
Early - Saturday
morning 'cars: began
ai'riving 'at . the -parking
lot ' at the Ripley Curling
Rink at • the north end of
the village and soon there
were quite a nu"rriber. It.
-was ..Fun Day .•for the
ladies curling at the
Ripley rink.'

Agricultural Society will: •.
be busy next .week. On
Monday evening Mar. 12,
the monthly meeting..wili,
be . held ..when the
delegates ' report on their
attendance at the- Ontario
Convention held in mid-
February ., in deep
downtown ,Toronto.,. Then
on .Saturday ' there will be
the St.. Patrick's Dance in
the`, Complex. Morley
Scott and Wes Smith,.
have. .been making
arrangements for it' for
the .past week.
Recently two- new.
gasoline .pumps •have
been. installed .at Frank':
Zipfel's• Garage on the.
main street in Ripley.

The . CNR section crew
cleared the snow ridges
lining °the ' edges or. the
road pavement' at both
the _chopping mill and the
station crossings in
Ripley last week.

was seriously injured
when struck down: by a
car on Highway 21 at
Kingsbridge on Christ
mas Eve, was recently
able to return to her home
on William $treet in
Ripley. Elaine 'has spent.
the winter in .University
Hospital in :London under
the: treatment' -of the
doctors and nurses there.
Ripley folks are glad. to
learn of her . return home.
Donald • and Anna
MacTavish are back to
' Ripley after a vacation in
Florida.
• For area horse . racing
'Tans, this year's Derby at
Lou. isville Kentucky is on
Sat., May 5; And, of
course'., that is the first of
the three big ones in the
Triple _ Crown. - The
"National Anthem" for
the Derby is: the playing •
of My. Old Kentucky
-Home.' Then comes . the
Preakness and Belmont
