Centre at Wiarton. Here Ripley Schools n they practiced their snowshoeing and cross- country skiing skills. They also did 'a bit of tree identification. Supper on Friday night and break- fast and. lunch on.. Saturday were all sup- plied. To raise money for this outing- the class held a $50. draw. The winning ticket was drawn on Jan. 11 and the lucky winner was Ron Pollock of Ripley. Thanks goes to Mr. LaFlair for, making this trip possible. Thanks also goes to Miss McGonegal for giving up her Friday night and Saturday to go with then. FINAL EXAMS The Secondary students wrote the finals from Jan. 21 to 26. Jan. 27 and 29 wereprofessional development days. Report cards were given..' out on Fri. Feb. 9. BIA CURLING. The annual BIA Curling Ronspiel was held on Fri. Feb. 2 . PUBLIC SPEAKING The grade 9's and 10's Public Speaking Contest was held on Feb. 6 The four top winners of this contest will be going to the Legion Public Speaking Competition on Sun., Feb. 25 at 2:00. Those four speakers are Janice Elliott - speaking on the value of a smile, Christy Messenger - her topic is on Horse Racing, Larry Needham - who is speaking about John Diefenbaker and Heather Harris and her speech is on Personality. „__Th%s, competition will be 'held . in the Ripley -Legion Hall Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. and anyone is welcome to go. Good - luck goes to all' the contestants! SKI TRIP The. Grade, 10 and 12 PIiys. Ed. classes went skiing' at Talisman on 'Fri., Feb. 9. A good time was enjoyed, by all and fortunately there were no broken bones. DANCE There will be . a Sadie Hawkins Valentines r Dance on Fri:, Feb. > 16. The danceis from 9:00 to 12:00. Girls are supposed toask the guys so see you all there. , ELEMENTARY NEWS KAREN LAWRENCE LORI ROBERTS The girls had a hockey game on Feb. 2. They played against Brookside in the Ripley Arena. The score was 1-0 for Brookside. Some students are preparing for the Science Fair on Feb. .15. Their entries are now in. PUPPETS • The students of Grade . are preparing for a Puppet Show to be held for the Kindergarten and Grade one classes later on. This week we are writing the plays. Peg and Sandy MacCharles curling with Bev and - Bill Peterbaugh took top honours on the early draw with two wins and a.plus of nine. Second placeon the early draw • went to. Donalda Pollard throwing second stones, Ken Dahmer playing vice and Donnie Pollard lead. This rink had , two wins and a plus of twelve. Third place went to, Marie and Jim MacDonald curling, with Gertrude and John Larsen with two, wins . anda plus seven. ' of Ripley held a Valentine • party on Fri., . Feb. 9 at the Legion Hall. There % was as usual a good j turnout of 65 or more:. Reg Moore led off with a sing song of Valentine songs - songs of love and joy. The Hall was decorated { -artistically in keeping With a Valentine party by LI Mrs. Violet MacKenzie. f Host and hostess for the / day were Mrs. and Mrs. Davie Courvoisie who greeted all atthe door. ' The business meeting was held first with Reg Godfrey chairman in the absence of Mrs. Arnold. and Mrs. Blue, secretary. We were reminded by Reg Godfrey that Ripley t Senior Citizens Happy / Hearts Club was founded •six years ago to -day Feb. 9. Reg spoke of trips in the near future. There ! will be one to Belmore +Maple Syrup . Festival. j Earl Tout will be looking after it and we shall hear Itmore later on this. It is, ! hoped also to arrange a trip to Gananoque as a stopping place and arrange tours from there " f to Montreal, Ottawa and Rideau Lakes. This will be similar to last year four to six days. It is also oiled to visit Peter - cruise the Trent Canal. There will be aeuchre party next Thurs. Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. - at the . Legion Hall under the auspices of the Sr. Citizens; The program was in charge of Mrs: Donnie MacDonald and Mrs: Evelyn Irwin with. Mrs. MacDonald as chairlady: Mary started off the:. program with a humorous joke. Mrs. White gave a real cute reading about a poor man caught between two loves. The way in which she read it also had quite an appeal. A piano duet :by Mrs. A. Gamble and Mrs. MacKenzie of two numbers, b"Melody of Love"and "Echoes. from Scotia" were really enjoyed. Mrs. Ray Osborne read two contests with the word heart in. - Mrs. Mary McDonald had a funny letter on transportation whish. created a good laugh. Two guests Elaine Pollock - and Mrs. Sheila MagDonald sang two duets "Blue Hawaii" and "Last night on the back porch I loved her best of all." The courtesy remarks were given by Mrs. Donald McCosh. Lunch was served by Mrs: Godfrey, Mrs. J. Purple Grove Mr. and Mrs. Don Reid and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gibson returned from a two week vacation on Saturday: The foursome flew from Toronto to Jamaica and from there enjoyed a two week Caribbean Cruise. The W.I. met at -the home of Mrs. Don. McCosh in Ripley • last week. Folks will be pleased to hear Sandra Forster is home from thehospital in Wingham. Debbie Rhody, Matt, Brad and Dawn visited on Friday with Judy, Rob 11 and Todd Thompson. Some in this area began to feel the Thill on. Saturday evening when the hydro was off for 21/2 hours. The fortunate ones were those with wood stoves and fireplaces. The A.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Roy Collins on Friday. Jim Dore of Wingham and Alexa Currie of London were dinner guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Don • Dore and Frank.
