To the' Editor, - I just thought I would write a few lines telling you how much we always look forward. to receiving the Sentinel with the local news. I know- there are probably quite a few people who consider we, . Amish, to be "odd balls", because of the way we live. But, it certainly would be greatly appreciated, • if there could be a decent hitch rack erected with en- ough room to tie up our hiirs- es, that is not blocked by - snow or cars. We can't very well drive our horse10a cer- tain place and then tell him, "Now, you stay there til we get back," and expect him to be there. Parking lots are needed for the motorists and they are provided. If the town does not see fit to erect a' hitch rack, we, 'odd balls", will just have to do the best we can, or go somewhere else. Many dimensions of the child's world can also be exam- ined'separately so that we can understand them from the child's point of view. To this end, monthly themes have been devised to help focus' attention all year long. These are: January, The Child as Person; February, The Child as Citizen; March, The Child as Creator; April, The Child, Nat- Environment; May, andThe Health Well-being of the Child and Family; June, The Exceptional Child; July, The Child's Right to Belong; August, The Child at Play; September, The Child as Learner and Worker; October, The Child as *" Neighbour; November, The - Child, Books and the Media, and December, The Child, The Fam- ily, The Community, The World. This special year to honour our special youth should be one otactivity, thought and learning. That a Special year has been designated means only that children will be in the spotlight for the next 12 months. But children and their rights must be guarded zealously every year, around the world, if we are to be guaranteed a future worth living. You dotit need to have a child to appreciate a child. It's -the International' Year of the Child, do what you can to help celebrate it. ...because every child has the right to smile 1979 International Year of the Child
