The March of Dimes needs
everyone's help, this. year
and every year, to win and
keep on. winning the battle
against disability. Disability
is everyone's business.
To many people, it 'seems a
rarity, something that hap-
pens occasionally to some
unlucky person far away.
• ;Not so. Thonsands of
Canadian adults become dis-
abled each year. ,
It could he the result of an
accident - in a car, at home,
at work or at play. It could be
caused by one of the crip-
pling. diseases - multiple
sclerosis, for instance, polio
or arthritis, heart attack or
Stroke.• .
Some are born' handicap-
ped, or are disabled in chila-
hood. Crippled kids grow up
to be disabled adults.
Whatever'the cause, the
net result is a permanent
physical disability for one in
every seven Canadian.

•
• And, 'whatever' the cause, th• e Marc! of -Dimes is 'there
to help. Not only with wheel-
• chairs, artificial limbs and
other aids, but with, pro- -4
grams like job training and •
placement, camping and
other recreation opportunit-
ies, self-help groups, mobile •
Medical clinics and research,,,
• help with housing and trans-
• portation.
The March of Dimes' sys-
tem of services help disabled
p,eople everywhere support
themselves, live independent
lives, and get back where
they belong - in the main-
stream of life.
Work like this takes mon-
ey, a great deal of money,
however carefully it is spent.
"People' seem to think the
March of Dimes is govern-
• ment funded," says Bud'.
McMorran, Fund Raising
Chairman. 'In fact, only, the
12 _Ability Centres receive
• goierriment.assistante - and
(it even this is only partial. For
our other needs, we rely
entirely on the support of the
• general. public."
• With that help the March
of . Dimes has been able to
_p_r_ vide its vital services...to •
hu -dreds of thousands of
pe ple for over, .27 vars.
With your help as well, the
• March of Dimes can look.

cessful future. \
