The image of the silver winter slips away in silent hollow- ness. The cold clouds melt into sunlight shimmering golden warmth on silky sands and dewy lakes. A warm satin breeze carries summer smells earth, . flowers, honey. One pure white gull, perfect- ly formed, trips lightly along rippling wisps of waves. The` Dreamer is alone untouched, unborn. A shrill voice cruelly cuts the fine ribbon of awareness. The lesson commences. • The Dreamer dies. The Student begins, BY MARNI-WALSH, 13B Holocaust. "Our childien and our children's children, must be told about it. And so must the children of the world"... This sums up why Gerald Green' wrote the Holocaust. As the cover of the book states, "It must never hap- pen again," This is the purpose of Green's book. He feels that in order for an event' like the Holocaust never to happen again the "children of the world" must know what took place during the time period that is now called the Holocaust. This. is preciselywhy he wrote the book -- to tell the children of the world.. The method used by Green. to relate, this story is very effective. He tells the story through the 'lives of ,two different men, „Erik Dorf and Rudi Weiss. Dorf is a young,,, German' lawyer, . and SS officer. Weiss is a young Jew who . does not merely accept "Seems: to grow better'. every year!" Green tells part of Weiss'• story, then part of Dorf's, alterna- ting back and forth through- out the book. Weiss' story is one which creates compassion, and sor- row. Through the book we see his family split up and decreasing until Rudi decid- es to rebel and runs off, before he is deported to ' Poland. His story .then con- tinues on.and tell's . of his close enconters with death; of• his marriage, to a girl, of— her later • death and finally of his -being reunited with his sister-in-law and nephew at the end of the war. . 'Dorf's story is not as compelling' as Weis'- and the.« reader tends to . look on him 'as the villain: Dorf's rise in the S. S. movement, his love for his country and the Fuhrer, a love so great .that be can justify in his own mind. ,the mass murder of millions of Jews which he had a direct involvement in are all described in the book. The book bias no underly- ing idea other than to state • the facts and to make people aware of how both, the Jews and the Germans felt during this period in history. Green's style is cleat and sharp. The 'language is sim- ple and easy to understand. The look is designed for, easy reading by the way Green alternates from one story to another.'Although' the book is a fair length,. the reader will fined that he can move - very rapidly through it with very little. difficulty. The book is an excellent piece of writing giving the reader an easy way to learn about a piece of history. that "must never happen again". SUSAN THOMPSON, 12K Goderich d€ -feats basketball :team JR. BOYS BASKETBALL Once again our . Junior Boys met another strong team. Our offence, was slow- ed andsometimes stopped by an overwhelming 'Goder— ich full court press. Early in the game Goderich took a very large lead which lasted throughout the game. The. man to man defence vhich we played was not good enough to stop the base -line drives by Goderich` which helped their lead to increase to fifty points. During the game a total of fifty-five fouls were committed, the ' major- ity by the ..Goderich team. Our team suffered a great loss when Tim •White receiv- ed an- •ankle injury when shooting for the basket in the fourth quarter.' The Must- angs had many chances to take the lead but didn't capitalize on foul shots which would have : put us ahead. irOur boys. lost 80-30 to a 'strong Goderich team.
