LUCKNOW U,C.W. UNIT N3 • Unit 2 held their first, meeting of 1979 in the clOreh on January 8. Mrs, Gibson opened the meeting with a poem, "Recipe for a Happy New Year". The minutes were read and approved. The roll call was answered by 11 mem- bers. Miss Ada Webster gave the report for Commun- ity Friendship. Mrs. Chas. McDonald made arrange- ments for supplies etc. for the January .1.8th banquet for the. Agricultural Society. Mrs. W. P. Hunter reported for Supply and Welfare. Lining is to be purchased for a .supply quilt which will be quilted at a later date. The devotional was opened with a , hymg and Mrs. Mamie Henglerson read the scripture. Mrs. Walter Deicz ter read the meditation, "A New Year's- Message", fol- lowed by a prayer. Mrs. C. McDonald gave a .reading, "Through.the Year", Mrs., Howard Barger read -an article on "Human-Ilights". A poern; "Happy' New • "YeataLs', was read. by. Mrs. Magoffin. • Following the singing of a hymn, the Meeting was closed with prayer by Mrs I.Gibson. Mrs. Donald Hackett read a New Years poem and led in prayer. • The business portion of the meeting ' followed and the .programs for the, coming • year were, handed out. The • meeting closed with the singing of a hymn and Mrs. Alex Hackett led in prayer. A social hour was then enjoyed. They haVe 3 daughtert, 14 granachildren and a 4v great grandchild. Following their marriage, they farmed oti- lot 26, concession 5 of Huron, down the road' from John's par- ents' farm. They moved to the homeplace In 1948 when their daughter, Audrey. mar - 'vied Lester Ferguson and „ they farmed where John and Helen had lived. .- • The couple. have two older daughters; Margaret, Mrs,.° Bill Ferguson, Lucknow,.ana Nornli, Mrs. Cecil Hume - rev, Pei& Clark. • it's been a happy marriage they both agree. When.you • • got married at that time, you got married for keeps obser- • ves John. He says that Helen wouldn't quarrel with any- body .1 "1 \was' ready• to quarrel, but she Wouldn't; so I wasn't going to teach her," he laughs. • -• When asked theseCret • long marriage staying happy,. They remember the time early in their marriage, when John made an ironing board for Helen, and she told him it wasn't as good as the one her grandfather had made her, when she was keeping hoUse • for her brOther, before her marriage. John pointed out • that her cooking wasn, t any- thing t� . brag about and it was there and • then \they decided, if they were going to.be, happy, they. had better learn to get along. . The real love came into • their home when their first child was 'born, says John, because of the love she gave to them, and the love in the • home increased With the arrival of the' pert • tee° Children. • "The family Were Wonder- ful to keep Us happy," says John, "Our family IS so fond of Us and we are of them." • Unit # 3 met in the Church Parlour on Tuesday, January 8th. Mrs. Cook welcomed everyone and Wished all "A Happy New Year" and also read, a .poem. Mrs. Menary reported kn. Stewardship by reading ar- ticles from the Mandate and Observer Magazines. Mrs. Jardine reported- that , the Unit in 1978 had contributed S608.15 towards the General Fund and S16,20 for Mem- • berships plusthe birthday jar ° project. Mrs. Irwin led a Bible discussion on the Three Parables from Luke. A clos- ing pra)/er was given by Mrs. Cook. The committee was thanked.
