Friday seemed to befull of excitement for thevillagers this week. Several events happened during -the day which were unsual. TRAGIC FIRE Mr. - Art Woodcock and Lorraine and Charles fled their home late at night only to see it totally destroyed by fire. The fire department answered the call quickly but were only. able to keep the fire from spreading to near by buildings. The occupants lost all of their possessions and nearly their lives. Their pet cat had aroused them from their beds. A benefit dance will be held in the near future to helpthem start again, SURPRISE LANDING Many St. Helens residents were very surprised to see a helicopter land in the village just behind Luba 'Weber's home..The pilot is a friend of Mrs. °Weber's son and since he was in the area he stopped to give him.a short ride in the, helicopter .• -. RUNAWAY HORSES Later on in the afternoon several of Bill Shetler's hors- es escaped from the barn- yard and were quickly gallop- ing up the road, with Mr, Shetler in pursuit. Luckily. Wayne Todd was just getting. on his snowmobile and man- aged to scare them in to Hugh Todd's laneway or the chase may have been end- less. The horses were quickly turned around and escorted back horpe. ST. HELENS SMOWMOBILE CLUB The St. Helens Snowmo- bile Club met for another trail ride on Friday night. Many riders wire just get- ting over. a long trail ride which was sponsored by the Colborne' Snowmobile Club Iasi Sunday afternoon. Part of the , ride was over the_ Benmiller Route which was held last Sunday. Later at the Club House things were also interrupted by a hydro black out. But the. meeting continued by ,flash- light. The club discussed the upcoming rally on February 1 lth. A prize list of donations for the rally will be published •at a later date in this paper. The members also discussed sponsoring ,riders for the Whipper Billy Watson Snow- mobile Ride, a Children's Day and a cookout. Following the meeting a hot lunch was served and eat by coleman lantern and flashlight.
