• A house fire early Friday morning, destroyed the home of Art.
Woodcock in St. Helens. Mr.. Woodcoek, his housekeeper, Laurene
Ross, and her son, 'Chuck, escaped 'injtiry. They were awakened
around 3 a.m'. by the cats and found the main floor of the house filled
with smoke. By the tine the Lucknow Fire Department arrived, the

The tailend 'of a spowsterin, .that ripped
through Chicago dumping 23 inches of snow
on the windy city, hit this area beginning
late Saturday night and lasting through
Sunday.
• The storm was the second worstin the
city's history.
Forecasts calledfor between 6 - 8 inches of
snow to fall in our area. Blowing and
drifting, snow caused by a southwest wind,
. blocked the roads and visibility teas nil
through most of Sunday. - •
Highway 4, from VVitighain to Blyth, was
blocked by A five carpileup; shortly after 1°
p.m. Sunday. The highway remained closed
until late Sunday night while snowplows and

'police cleaned up. Damage was minor and
.np injuries were reported
On Monday, _some back roads and
concessions werestill blocked or reduced to
one lane, and drifting snow. was filling them
in as fast as they were opened. Highways
were icy with snow covered .areas. •
.' Buses did net run and most country
stridents had the day Off. Brookside Public
and Kinloss Central were closed. Other area
schoQls were open, but no buses ran:
Chicago is preparing for anther blow,
which is' due to arrive late TneSday; and, if
we're lucky, this area may miss the tailend
of this one • •
