The Bruce County Fiealth,Unit•'
is holding 'immunization Clinics .'
in Lucknow the second Wednes-
day of
ednes-day-of each month for immunrza
tion against diptheria, whooping
cough, tetanus and polio, .red
and german measles and
mumps:
The. clinics are being held i'n
the . wake of a polio scare,, in
Oxford"•Caunty last summer and '
tomake adults aware that `they
•should keep up their tetanus and,
polio immunization:
People over 18 should receive
boosters for :tetanus and polio
every five' years, says Ruth.
Thompson of the Bruce County.
Health Unit office -in Lucknow;
"it is so much .easier to get a
needle, than`- nurse someone
throughthe illness," she points
Qut.
Thereis no charge for the
i'mmunizati.dn and children, as.
well as,,adul.ts;can dome to .the'.
clinic The Health Unit intends
to continue: the clinics the second
Wednesday of each month in
Lucknow, for as long as there is ' '
a need. -
This :winter, childrenin the
area schools' will be immunized
if they are inkindergarten,
grades 8,.9, and 12 in an attempt
to catch up with children who
have not received boosters and
educate adolescents.. that _they
too, should keep up their
"-immunization.
Skyrocketing .health' costs and , .---
budget restraints in health care
make it imperative, that money
is not wasted treating disease,
that can be • 'prevented by. im-
munization. It wastes money and
a doctor's time.
Inimunizatiori.'is not .onl'y,the
responsibility of the parent with
a ' newborn child it is the
responsibility of adultsfor them
selves and thair',•Tct1'ttd`r'etf:"'i't' t
important that anyone over the
age of 18, who has not received a
booster within .,the last five
years, come outs to4:the clinic.
• It is everyone's responsibility
to keep . up their Immunization
. because polio, and, tetanus are •
infectious, and if ' you contact
either, you, can place others in
jeopardy, as welt. Immunization
is necessary,.
The risk of polio is not as great-
as ;that :.of tetanus. You'don't
have to step an &,r usty nail to get.
tetanus,' it can ' be, contacted
-through an operr-°wound,'or just a
scrape.
Area clinics are being held in
.the Kincardine : Hospital, the
second Tuesday of the ,month,
froth 5 - 7 p.m.; in Teeswater,
the second Friday of the month,
fro.rn S - 5 p.:rn arid. in Lucknow,
the -second Wednesday of: the
month, from 3 5 p.m. .
