AROUND
THE FIRE HALL
The Wingham firemen
played host to Huron County
Fire Aid Association for the
November meeting when 45
firemen met at the fire hall.
Hugh J. McElhinney of
Canadian Motorola Electronics
Company gave a demonstration
on how radio in fire services is
helpful in the mutual aid sys-
tem as well as between de-
partment vehicles.
It was decided to cancel
meetings of the association for
the minter months and the next
one will be in March

German Christmas is filled with
tradition, foreMost of which
is the Christmas tree, dating
back 400 years, Until recently,

been introduced, the candles
are still preferred by Many.

Second frame lead ends
in defeat for Wingham
Wingham's "180 Sports"'
went down to their second de-
feat Sunday afternoon, drop ,
ping the match 8-4 to the host
Wiarton team, The game was
similiar to the encounter with
Kincardine the night before but
was cleaner, with fewer penal-
ties.
Wingham led 3-2 at the end
of the first frame but shortly
after the midway mark of the
second Wiarton spurted for
three unanswered goals which
took the wind out of Wingham's
sails,
Three more Wiarton markers
in the third, with only one
Wingham retaliation, spelled
8-4 doom to the "180 Sports".
TAKE FIRST
PERIOD LEAD
With Willie in the penalty
box for tripping, Adams scored
his first of three for Wiarton at
1:29, Cole and Hunter assist-
ing.
Elwood Irwin put the score
1-1 at 13;25, deflecting in a
blueline shot by Jim Bain.
Wiarton took a 2-1 lead at
15;08, Cole scoring from
Adams but just eight seconds
later, Strong gathered in a re-
bound from Willie's shot to
tuck it past the Wiarton twiner
and tie the score 2-2.
With less than half a minute
remaining in the period, and
with Houston off for interfer-
ence, Wingham caught Wiar-
ton up the ice and Jardin took
a pass from English from the
side of the net to flash the red
light.
WINGHAM BLANKED
IN SECOND FRAME
Three unanswered goals
within four minutes gave Wiar-
ton a 5-3 lead midway through
the second period, Cole scor-
ing from Adams, Adams from
Cole 911 the second, and
Adams from Juniper on the
third,
Earlier in the period, Jar-
din of the "180 Sports" tried a
little verbal persuasion on the
referee but sat out ten minutes
in the penalty box for-his ef-
forts,
SPORTS OUTSCORED
3-1 IN THIRD
Two goals early in the
third, Cole from Juniper, and.
Young from Adams, gave
Wiarton a commanding four-
goal lead with less than ten
minutes to play,
Irwin came through with
his second goal of the night at
14;45 deflecting a shot by
Houston, to make it 7-4.
Peacock also picked up an
assist on the play.
Adams turned the hat trick
at 16;25 scoring from Juniper
to register the final tally of
the game and leave the score-
board reading 8-4.
NOTES AND QUOTES
The "180 Sports" is the
name chosen by the club to
signify their sponsorship by the
Royal Canadian Legion, Branch
180.... The team was short a
number of players for Sunday's
game, Neil out with injuries,
Forrester sitting out a suspen-
sion for his match penalty
Saturday night, and Henry who
was unable to play The
players were in agreement that
the game was much more en-
joyable than Saturday's ,
stating Wiarton is a fast, clean
club. Their opinion of the
Kincardine Bulldogs is some-
what less complimentary
The same teams clash again
this weekend. Wiarton visits
Wingham at 8:30 Saturday
night and on Sunday the "180
Sports" travel to, Kincardine
for an afternoon game at WO,.
We're sure the lively crowd
from Kincardine was big help
to Kincardine on Saturday and
we're hoping an equally good
crowd of Wingham fans will be.
on hand in Kincardine Sunday.

BY RUSSELL JONES
Last Wednesday the Wing -
ham Scout Troup meeting was
held in the public school gym-
nasium. For inspection they
had hands and finger nails but
because the last couple of
weeks the Scouts had only been
asked for clean handkerchiefs
most of the boys flunked out
showing only their clean hand-
kerchiefs.
After this slides were shown
on deer and fish by Scouter
Ken Henry, The study period
was with knots and more com-
plicated things for investiture.
At the close of the meeting
the boys gave their Scout fare-
well,
Cub meeting
The Wingham Cub Pack en-
joyed two films shown by Baloo
at their meeting last week.
More badges were awarded by
Raksha; woodsmen badge to
Bob Williams and Ricky Wil-
liams; house orderly to Michael
King; artist to Earl Thompson;
Green Stars to Jimmy Ritter
and Jeff Anderson; Tawny Star
to Bob Williams. The meeting
closed with the Grand Howl and .
Cub Prayer.
EXTRA GIFT
An "extra" and inexpensive
gift certain to be appreciated
by most youngsters is a supply
of batteries. Most children
receive one or more battery-
powered toys for Christmas.
